Embracing our safety commitments We’ve being asking those of you who've been on our new ThinkSAFE training what you think and how it has helped you. ThinkSAFE ambassador Prashant reflects on the way which the training has impacted his thought process around safety: "Following the training I have a greater understanding of the impact which I have; if you don’t thinkSAFE you won’t act safe and make safer choices".
Why is ‘care and consider the impact of our decisions’ important? Everything we do, however small, affects our culture of health and safety. Working unsafely, ignoring safety rules or cutting corners to ‘get a job done’ influences others to do the same. If we put health and safety at the heart of what we do, look out for each other and speak up about safety issues then, together, we will ensure that everyone goes home safely.
Wishing those celebrating today, a Diwali that brings happiness, prosperity and joy to you and your loved ones.
Our first safety commitment is - we care, and we consider the impact of our decisions. Wherever we work and whatever our role, we’re all part of the Morgan family and need to keep each other safe. We can do this by working safely, caring for each other and thinking about how our actions and what we say affects others. • We care and look out for each other • We talk about safety in a positive way • We think about how our actions and decisions may impact on others • We follow up and check the impact of our decisions.
At Morgan we invest both in our people and in our equipment. Our MMS Technology Team has recently inaugurated a new induction furnace at our Aurangabad site, a key investment in the future capability of the site. The new furnace will enable us to speed up our materials development cycles and increase the certainty of our product performance; before commencing customer trials. This important investment allows us to prioritise innovation, while ensuring that we also focused on providing our customers with high performing solutions for their applications.
We want to build a positive safety culture by putting health and safety at the heart of what we do. This means we approach every moment of every working day with safety in mind. We do this by being curious not complacent, by looking out for each other and speaking up about safety issues. Our thinkSAFE commitments are a set of safety behaviours which support us in delivering a safe and healthy workplace. They are a simple set of values that all our people can make a personal commitment to follow. Throughout November we’ll be sharing more about our commitments; what they mean to us and how our people are embracing them.
According to the World Health Organisation approximately 31 million persons globally have drug use disorders. This can be directly caused by other mental health concerns or can lead to further mental health issues. Substance abuse doesn't just refer to illegal drugs, but includes the harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol, and the abuse of prescription medications. If you or a loved one need support relating to substance abuse, there are charities and organisations who can help.
At Morgan, thinkSAFE is a mindset, not a training programme. We consider safety in everything that we do, because we care. The five Morgan thinkSAFE commitments provide guidance on how we should behave and remind us that: • We care and we consider the impact of our decisions • We must be trained and always follow the safety rules • We take 5 for safety and stop for danger • We don’t walk by and report safety problems we identify • We challenge positively and respect those who challenge us Throughout November, we'll be focusing on the safety commitments and the impact they are having on changing behaviour and mindsets across our Morgan family.
Domestic abuse is estimated to impact 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime. Do you know the signs to look out for? Intimidation, isolation, controlling finances and stalking can all be signs of abuse. Take a look at Verywell Mind's guide on physical, emotional or behavioural changes to look out for.
In the final week of our second annual Cybersecurity Month, we're focused on Laws and Regulatory Compliance. The subject matter might put you off, but this is a cyber area which reaches from our work to our personal lives too. I am sure you've seen the rise in smart technologies, but did you know that you're responsible for ensuring your smart systems don't record unnecessary footage? In the UK this month, personal security became a matter for the courts.
