At Pets at Home we take pride in what we do and we know our passionate colleagues live our values every day! That's why every month we highlight a Colleague and Team of the period across our Support Offices, Stores and Distribution Centres! ๐ Our colleagues send their nominations through via our Reward Hub platform and it's a great opportunity to recognise the hard work and commitment of our people.
Weโre delighted to announce that the Pets At Home Foundation has been nominated for the 2022 Petplan UK and Association of Dogs & Cats Homes Animal Charity Awards. ๐ We're so proud of our team and their work alongside rescues to help pets in need. If you'd like to say 'thank you' to our charity team, please follow the link below to nominate them for Animal Charity Team of the Year, nominations close at midnight tonight and every nomination counts! ๐ค
Our Chief People and Culture Officer, Louise Stonier, recently wrote an article for Reward Strategy magazine championing the decision to allow dogs in the workplace. ๐ถ Many of our colleagues in our Support Offices donโt come to work alone, bringing with them their canine friends. On any given day, we may have up to 80 dogs in our offices! It's a decision that's become one of our core workplace benefits, attracting and retaining talent and correlates with improved engagement, absenteeism and a healthy work-life balance. Pets really help us to reduce stress at work and make everyone feel happier, while increasing productivity and job satisfaction.
Last week on International Men's Day, we reflected on the vulnerability of men to poor mental health and mental health conditions and how we can all better support the men in our lives. A massive thank you to our colleague gender network for arranging for Michael Wood from 45Alive to speak to colleagues on this important, but too little talked-about topic.
We're thrilled to share that on Tuesday night we won HR Team of The Year at the PERSONNEL TODAY Awards. We were also recognised as finalists in the Best Employee Benefits Category, the Best Family Friendly Employer of the Year and the Best Graduate Programme for Vets4Pets.๐ The judges were impressed with the real value the team add to how we attract, retain, engage and generally care about all colleagues across our Group. This was even more evident with how they dealt with the uncertainty brought about by the pandemic and supported our colleagues with clear leadership and guidance. We're extremely proud of our People Team and wanted to say a huge well done to every single person who has made this win possible! ๐
To help us make change and become more sustainable and planet friendly, we have three established committees that are driving action within our business. These are our: ๐ Climate Change and Waste Committee ๐ Product and Supply Chain Committee ๐ Vet Group Better World Pledge Committee Keep an eye out for some exciting updates on the work our committees are doing to help to reduce our carbon pawprint on behalf of pets, people and planet. ๐พ
We've now reached the end of our latest wellbeing challenge in partnership with our Pets At Home Foundation! For 30 days, our colleagues have been doing something to either treat or challenge themselves, while improving their wellbeing. We've had some fantastic entries, including: 30 different wellness activities in 30 days, 30 days of headstands, cycling for 30 minutes a day and 30 random acts of kindness. We are so proud of our colleagues and the difference they have made over the last month! We're now busy picking the winners of our competition and totalling up how much we've raised, so watch this space!
We're pleased to share that weโve signed up to Jo's Cervical Cancer Trustโs #TimeToTest campaign; committing to raising cervical cancer awareness in our workplace and playing our part in preventing cervical cancer! We know that 1 in 4 women and people with a cervix do not attend cervical screening when invited. It can be a difficult test at the best of times, but it can be an additional challenge to fit an appointment around working. Thatโs why we want to empower our colleagues to look after their cervical health. Find out about how you can access support here:
Did you know... we have developed our very own Better World Pledge! The pledge has three pillars covering Pets, Planet and People. We have committed to achieving three main goals: ๐ถ By 2030 positively impact the life of every pet in the UK ๐ซ By 2030 enhance the lives of one million people through our shared love of pets ๐ By 2040 become net zero
We are passionate about ensuring that all our colleagues feel welcome and part of our Group.๐ We want everyone to feel comfortable being themselves and to be respected in relation to their gender identity. Thatโs why we are actively encouraging our colleagues to choose to share their pronouns on their email signatures, name badges, and during introductions. Thank you to Paul, Willow and Lars from our Camden store for inspiring our colleagues. Each person who shares their pronouns, makes it easier for others to do the same.
