Presenting: the winners/survivors of the Battle of the Bots! Last week, Patrick Armstrong, Emma Clennett and Matthew Fennell had a great time running a team hackathon with Newcastle University undergraduates, in which the students were tasked with creating AI bots to play against other teams in a battle to the (artificial!) death. There were prizes in the form of Amazon vouchers for the top three teams, which were: • 1st Place – Code Executioners (Dale, Jack and Mark) • 2nd Place – Team Tetra (Nathan and Jesse) • 3rd Place – Bulbasaur (Jack, Michalina and Warren) We had great feedback from the teams and we can truly say that the bots were some of the best we’ve seen!
Tamara Chehayeb Makarem has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Returner category at the Women in Tech Excellence Awards and will be a panellist on a discussion about ‘Helping returners’ at the Women in Tech Festival on 22 November. In this Q&A with Computing, she explains why the topic of the panel is so important to her and what companies can do to help more women return to work.

It was great to check in on Monday with the Autumn 2021 cohort of the 'Empowering Women to Lead Digital Transformation in Scotland' initiative, which we’re proud to sponsor. During the day’s workshops, Catriona Koris—Scott Logic Delivery Principal and member of the EWLDT programme panel—gave a talk on her leadership journey. And then at the social event in the evening, we were pleased to be able to give each member of the cohort a copy of Brené Brown’s 'Dare to Lead', with a message from our CEO. It was an inspirational day and we’re really looking forward to checking in with these future leaders again for Graduation Day in December! Follow the link to find out more about this programme.
