At Selfridges, we wear our badges with pride! We love to hear what our iconic yellow badge means to our team members. Jamie not only associates his with the history, creativity and customer service that we are all incredibly passionate about; he also associates it with making a life-changing move from his home in Devon and we love this! It's proof that with hard work, you can make anything happen and we are all about that.
In a bid to make drinking water more accessible and turn the tide on plastic pollution in our oceans, we unveiled our first public water fountain outside our Duke Street entrance last year, and it's been hydrating customers, team members and the public ever since. Now that the sun is shining in London, what better excuse do you need to stop by? To learn more about our sustainability initiative Buying Better/Inspiring Change, head over to the Selfridges website. If you want to be part of a community that truly cares about sustainability then we would love to hear from you. It's almost time for our first beach clean of the year! We encourage our team members to volunteer one day a year for a cause that matters to them. Many of them choose to volunteer on our annual Beach Clean with ZSL, by planting trees with the Woodland Trust or by selecting an activity for a charity close to their hearts.

We're famous for our yellow carrier bag – but how did yellow become so synonymous with Selfridges? Well, like every great love story, this one started with a rose – a yellow one, to be precise. The Selfridges rose variety was first grown to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Selfridges in 1984, with roses planted in nearby Hyde Park (aka our favourite lunchtime picnic spot). Our founder, Harry Gordon Selfridge, was a keen gardener and called the rose ‘the emblem of the house of Selfridge’ (many hubby brownie points there, we imagine, as his wife was also called Rose). It wasn’t until the early 1990s that the Selfridges yellow carrier bag first became the It-bag for all, making this bright and buoyant colour synonymous with Selfridges.
