We recently introduced paid volunteering leave as part of our rewards programme for colleagues. This week, debt advisor Seb told us how he'd been using his; "A vacancy recently came up for a parent governor at our son's school, and I'd been asked if I'd consider it. The idea of having the support from StepChange (and paid time off) to do some volunteering work in our local community gave me just the boost I needed to apply. My first task was to lead on a project to paint a race track in the playground for reception children. It took a couple of weekends (on top of one day's volunteering leave) to complete, and I enjoyed every minute. We're now looking to start designing a play structure / climbing frame as well, so my creative juices have really started to flow! As a faith school, in a less affluent area, the school have to provide a significant amount of self-funding, so any help they can get is really appreciated. Volunteering leave is a great idea, because it not only benefits the local community (or good cause) but also, your own personal wellbeing too'
