This week, our Menopause and Women in Leadership belonging groups joined forces in honour of World Menopause Day to talk about menopause and its impact when you are a female leader, also discussing: ➡️The importance of self-education ➡️Being willing to be vulnerable and be a role model for others ➡️How you can be a male ally #WeAreUW

Have you ever been bracken bashing in the Brecon Beacons? 👀 Well, that’s exactly what our Property and Procurement team got up to when they visited our tree-planting partner, Stump Up for Trees 🌳 As odd as it sounds, bracken bashing (clearing bracken) is key to ensuring all the young trees we’ve planted continue to keep growing and flourish 🪴 A big thanks to Stump for showing us the ropes and all the brilliant work they do 👏 #WeAreUW

Scottish Borders Business of the Year 🏆🏴 Last week, our Selkirk team got suited and booted for the Scottish Borders Business Excellence Awards and took home Business of the Year (51+ employees) 🥳 Thanks to our ongoing work with local schools, we also received a special mention in the Developing Young Workforce Champion category. These accolades are a testament to our commitment to supporting the local community and becoming the local employer of choice—key goals we set when we launched our Selkirk Hub 🚀 Well done team Selkirk! 💜 #WeAreUW
“As an Associate Software Engineer, a big part of my role is to make it easier and more efficient for customers to get in touch with UW, creating a more user-friendly journey. I’m actually relatively new to the tech industry. I discovered coding through an evening Code First Girls course and found it similar to learning languages. This led me to leave teaching and join the School of Code - a free boot camp where I started learning not only to code but also about the tech industry and how to work in a tech team. This experience continues to prove invaluable. In my free time, I love reading, running and baking. Travelling is another passion of mine, as I love exploring new places, languages and cultures. Spending time with family and friends is also really important to me, and I love heading back home to Cornwall whenever I can to visit my family, especially my parents’ dog Bailey. Being less than a year into my UW journey (and tech career), every day is a new learning experience. I am beyond glad I decided to make the change into a career in tech, and I’m really grateful to UW for giving me that first step up. If anyone’s considering moving into tech, I’d really encourage you to go for it and couldn’t recommend both the School of Code and working at UW more.” Hannah is an Associate Software Engineer, and has been with UW for one year 💜
Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting an inspiring day at our Colindale hub in partnership with the Social Mobility Business Partnership (SMBP) 🌟 We welcomed a group of ambitious sixth-formers, offering them a unique opportunity to connect with our leaders across UW, participate in interactive sessions, honing their problem-solving and presenting skills 🙌 A big thank you to everyone who made this day possible! We’re proud to support SMBP’s mission to empower, inspire, and equip students from low-income backgrounds with the valuable skills they need for their future careers 💜
Introducing our newest tree-planting charity partner Moor Trees 💚 When we came across Moor Trees, we were inspired by their mission to restore the native woodland of Dartmoor and breathe life back into the region. Over the next three years, we’ll be helping them: 🌳 Plant 90,000 trees. 🌳 Double their tree-planting numbers this winter. 🌳 Expand the region’s temperate rainforest, a rare and declining habitat.
