Happy Earth Day 🌏 This year, we wanted to use Earth Day to shine a light on one of our fantastic tree-planting partners, Stump Up for Trees 🌳 Stump is a small, community-powered charity based in South Wales. Since joining forces in 2021, we have helped them plant more than 245,000 trees across the region, with an aim to plant 200,000 more in the next two years 🙌 If, like our Head of Sustainability Julia, you’d like to get stuck in (see pictures below), or you’d simply like to find out more about this fabulous charity, click the picture to head to their website 🔗 #EarthDay #TreePlanting #Sustainability
“My role at UW is to lead our fantastic Prepayment Team, by managing the end-to-end experience for our energy prepayment customers. My biggest highlight since joining UW has to be the launch event of our Selkirk Hub. This was a real milestone for the company and also the local area in terms of job creation. It was a great day with local press, our employees and the local charities we support through the UW Foundation. What a day! I took up running last January and will be completing my third marathon this May in Edinburgh, having done London and Valencia last year. Being a stubborn person, this all actually started with a beer and an "I could run a marathon" comment, being met by laughter from my friends! I'm also a big Newcastle United fan and as a season ticket holder, I can be found every other weekend in the stands cheering the team on! I've also been trying to do more charity work. Last year I raised money for the National Autistic Society, Men's Mental Health (with the UW Movember squad) and volunteered with a fantastic business called Social Bite here in Edinburgh on Xmas day. I’m incredibly proud of how far our Selkirk site has come in such a short space of time. I'm really excited to see how we can find more opportunities to grow and enhance the customer experience - it's a special part of our operation with lots of potential.” Stu is a Senior Manager in Customer Operations and has been with UW for 18 months now 💜 #WeAreUW
🌟Exciting news - we have enhanced our paternity leave! After listening to feedback from our employees and some fantastic work from our Working Parents network, we have doubled our paternity leave from two to four weeks. But that’s not all… 👉 Our employees can take paternity leave any time within 52 weeks of the birth or adoption of their child. 👉 If preferred, these four weeks can be taken in two separate blocks. Chris Hills, one of the Working Parents network leads, said: “Almost 18 months ago, I had two weeks of paternity leave when I became a parent for the first time, and it felt like it passed in the blink of an eye. I know that this will make a big difference to any expectant fathers here at UW.”
“As Design Lead, my team support all three of our audiences - customers, Partners and employees. We have influenced the design of everything from our intranet to magazines, our Partner portal, and even the branding of our UW Minis. Not to mention annual events like Power Up and Amplify, as well as the design of our new hub spaces (the newest being our Farringdon hub). We collaborate with practically every area of the business, maintaining our brand guidelines and leading the continued expansion of our creative asset libraries; this includes arranging photoshoots and developing templates to streamline the workflow of the team. I love my team - they really care and put so much effort into what they create. There is no job too big or too small, and the pride they have in their work really shows. Outside of work, I've always been quite sporty. I just got back from a ski holiday in France - which was my first time in Europe after growing up snowboarding in Canada. My wildest claim to fame is that in a past life, I played roller derby. My derby name was Juvie Haul and I was a Jammer for the Doomsday Bunnies. When I'm not playing sports, I like to spend my spare time reading, cuddled up with my dog, Mila. She's a rescue pup from Cyprus whom my husband and I adopted after lockdown. Mila is quite clingy and often makes appearances in my work calls where she steals all the attention.” Caitlin is our Design Lead and has been with UW for more than 4 years now 💜 #WeAreUW
Big shoutout to our Pride Belonging Group for an amazing hybrid event celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month in February 🌈 Over 50 members from UW’s LGBTQ+ community and allies came together both in person and remotely for a fantastic session. Led by drag artist Crayola, we explored an engaging D&I workshop highlighting important aspects of LGBTQ+ history and strategies for boosting support in the workplace. It was a brilliant opportunity to connect, learn, and take steps forward together 🙌 #WeAreUW #LGBTQHistoryMonth #Pride
“As a Senior Product Manager, I collaborate with different areas of our energy business to agree and run initiatives that deliver the best possible value and service to our energy customers. From ensuring we have the right systems and processes in place to support them throughout their time with us, to providing customer service teams with the best tools to help manage queries efficiently. I consider my team to be so much more than the Product function. We're a blended family of software engineers, marketers, UX and data analysts and I'm forever proud of and grateful for how the team always pulls together to achieve our goals with such passion and hard work. Outside of UW, I love to read and listen to music, they're my key ways to unwind. Then, spending time and making memories with my family and friends, especially my 2 children, are my favourite things to do. Starting from a couple of units in Staples Corner to hubs up and down the country, managing tens of thousands of customers to now approaching the 1 million mark and being with the business throughout that journey has been really amazing. I can’t wait to see what’s next for UW.” Carly is a Senior Product Manager and has been with UW for more than 20 years 💜🥳 Ready to be a part of our growing journey? 🌳Proudly restoring the ancient temperate rainforests 🌳 We were recently recognised by Sky News for our tree-planting efforts down in Devon - a project we’re super excited about. Below are just some of the highlights: 🌲 The National Trust is planting over 100,000 trees as part of a project this winter, and UW is proudly funding 50,000 of these at the Arlington Estate. 🌲 Since 2020, we’ve been supporting large-scale habitat creation projects in the UK, planting over 174,000 trees to help restore the country’s biodiversity. 🌲 This winter we aim for another 230,000+ trees to be planted on our behalf in the projects we support by our tree-planting partners based in England, Wales and Scotland. You can check out the full story on the project below ⬇️ #WeAreUW #TreePlanting
Welcoming our new African-Caribbean Belonging Group 🌟 We’re very excited to be launching our 6th Belonging Group at UW today. Did you know there are currently 2.5 million unpaid carers in employment across England and Wales? With 75% of those continuously worrying about how to juggle their work with caring responsibilities. That’s why we're proud to introduce our new Carer’s Leave Policy & Passport. This initiative is designed to offer more comprehensive support to our team members who balance work with long-term caring 💜 From Monday the 22nd, UW employees will be able to take up to five days of paid time off each year. Along with this, we're introducing a Carer’s Passport, making it easier for team members to maintain support without having to reiterate their needs with changes in role or management. Additionally, our UW Carer’s Network offers a valuable space for carers to connect and share experiences, contributing to a supportive and understanding workplace environment. This community is shaping our approach and helping drive new policies forward 🌟 #WeAreUW #Carers
