Earlier this morning, our consumer expert, Lisa Webb, appeared on BBC Breakfast revealing that many broadband customers are trapped in a LOSE-LOSE situation where they either have to accept exorbitant mid-contract price increases or pay exit fees of over £200. Lisa said, 'It's becoming much more noticeable because these prices are linked to inflation and as a result, it's hitting people an awful lot harder than it would have done a few years ago.' 'Ofcom has said they will be looking at whether or not these providers have been doing the right thing.' #Broadband #Inflation #CostOfLiving #CostOfLivingCrisis

More than 1.7 million energy bill support vouchers have not been redeemed by prepayment meter customers. We've led calls for Energy Bill Support Scheme voucher redemption rates for traditional prepayment customers to be published for each supplier and we are pleased to see the government taking this on board, providing much-needed transparency about which firms need to make improvements. Going ahead, the government and energy suppliers must work together to ensure that all customers on these prepayment meters – who are more likely to be vulnerable and on lower incomes – are able to access this vital support without further delay. Our survey of more than 10,000 energy customers found big differences between the best and worst gas and electricity firms in the UK. Octopus Energy came out on top with a customer score of 73%, which was well above the average of 54%. Whereas, Shell Energy and SSE Energy Services came bottom with overall scores of 48% and 46% respectively. We’re calling on providers to make it as easy as possible for customers to get in touch and get support whenever they need it. https://lnkd.in/ejvpi2zA
Which? consumer expert Lisa Webb appeared on BBC One's Rip Off Britain Live this morning, discussing scams infiltrating eBay and Facebook and the government's Online Safety Bill. Lisa said: ‘Which? is really concerned that these platforms have access to huge amounts of resources, huge amounts of money, and the ability to find these adverts and scams, but they're still appearing, and we're finding them all the time. ‘As it stands, platforms aren't taking enough responsibility. And until legislation comes in and forces them to do more, unfortunately, I think consumers will be paying the price for that.’ You can watch the episode here: https://lnkd.in/eyFbtdck
Which? director of Advocacy and Policy, Rocio Concha Galguera, now writes a fortnightly column in the The i Paper. This week she argues that strengthened consumer protections are vital for economic growth. 'With a general election two years away at most, both main parties are starting to set out their offer to the British public. While investment in infrastructure and skills will of course play a role, strengthened consumer protections are also crucial to improved economic performance.' The UK has an opportunity to develop a world-leading consumer and competition policy, encouraging innovation among businesses and giving customers more choice and lower prices. Whichever party is next elected should take it.' #EconomicGrowth #ConsumerRights

On Monday 16 January, we gave all our colleagues the day off as a ‘self-care’ day. So-called 'Blue Monday' is said to be one of the saddest days of the year due to the combination of post-Christmas blues, cold dark nights and the arrival of credit card bills. We care about our colleagues’ mental, emotional and physical health. Whether they choose to have a lie-in or do a more invigorating activity, it’s entirely up to them. Here's what some of our Feel Good Champions had to say: #SelfCare #MentalHealth #WellbeingAtWork #Wellbeing
