A typical lockdown work day for Senior Researcher/Writer (Travel), Trevor Baker, began with an early shift starting at 7am before watching a bit of ‘Mr Tumble’ with his son. Although his little one is now at nursery most days, he finds that he still prefers the early starts and uses this time for writing. Previously he would have been writing destination guides, but since March the stories have focused more on companies failing to refund passengers for cancelled flights or holidays. More recently Trevor has been investigating private Covid tests. Most of his days are taken up with research - which can involve speaking with owners of some of the covid testing firms, emails to the police to investigate fraud allegations and scoping out of other possible stories, from fire risks in hotels, to advice on how to save money on a last minute holiday.

Dean Sobers started at Which? as a fact checker. Since, he’s been a market analyst and then a senior writer/researcher. He’s currently the ‘Insurance Lead’ in the content team. He works with other Which? researchers to rate insurers and their products - and investigates issues that affect their customers for print and online articles. As a topic, insurance can end up being incredibly broad - encompassing themes ranging from fair pricing, t&cs, discrimination and health, to crime or technology. A typical day can involve planning surveys, wading through insurers’ jargon, helping troubleshoot problems members are experiencing and much more.
Congratulations to our latest values sharer, Daniel Dalton, senior campaigner. Dan was nominated for his efforts campaigning for the inclusion of scams in the Online Safety Bill. His colleagues said: ‘Ahead of the Queen's Speech, Dan was instrumental in working with 16 organisations to join Which? in signing a letter to the government on the issue of scams, including Martin Lewis and City of London Police. The results on the day were excellent, with many prominent politicians and journalists taking notice and reacting. The government has since announced it will tackle user-generated scams through the bill.'
Say hi to Jon Stricklin-Coutinho 👋 Jon is our community manager and his team manages our online community, Which? Conversation, as well as looking after our social media engagement. Jon explains what it’s like to work as a community manager: “In a given day I’ll probably read several hundred comments both to get the mood of the room on what consumers are saying to us as well as picking up any insight or new areas of consumer harm. From there, it’s mapping out the day, making time in the diary and making ample amounts of tea. “What keeps me driven is how much potential there is for Which? in offering a more integrated and engaging community experience. When people see and connect with the value of what you have to offer, you see the kind of rewards that only a community can bring: people signposting others to your resources, people stepping up to defend and support your initiatives, and actively seeking to be a part of the bigger picture of the brand. As people see how Which? responds, listens, and acts with them as their consumer champion, this helps to then bring in more and

Chiara Cavaglieri, senior researcher/writer, focuses on banking in our investigations team and started her journey at Which? in 2015. 'No two days are the same. Within days of arriving at the (handsome) office, I was working on an exclusive story about mis-sold investments thanks to a tip-off from a reader. We have a wonderful team here – with no shortage of talented colleagues to lean on – and Which? gives you the support and time you need to make sure your investigations are ambitious, robust, and impactful.'
