Joshua Reeves, senior video producer, has had to navigate the challenges of lockdown while still producing varied and quality video output for our website and social channels. He recently had to film a buying guide for face masks. His niece was not only in his bubble but had also recently taken a liking to wearing a face mask as part of a doctor’s costume – the perfect model. Or so he thought, until a major meltdown ensued and alternative plans were swiftly made. What is it they say? Never work with children or animals.
Meet Hui (Monica) Yang, who joined Which? at the start of this year as the information security manager on our technology team. Our Information Security team strives to improve security for Which? and UK consumers, providing the best advice and guidance. A recent project was initiated to evaluate and improve our users’ phishing awareness and be more resistant to phishing attacks. Monica says: 'Being the information security manager at Which? gives me the opportunity to work and lead on a wide range of security projects with our internal and external stakeholders. There is never a dull day in this team.'
In a big win for Which?'s fake reviews campaign, Facebook and Instagram have committed to doing more to tackle the trading of fake reviews on their sites. This follows a Which? investigation into the issue in August 2020. The Competition and Markets Authority has secured stronger commitments from Facebook, following its pledge to the regulator to crack down on the issue in January 2020.
A few weeks ago we shared our diversity and inclusion vision with you as part of our ‘Everyone Week’. To support this vision, we asked our colleagues to make a pledge sharing how they will contribute towards a more inclusive culture at Which?. Drew Shapter (he/him), user experience design (UXD) lead, shared his pledge: 'The focus of my pledge is to be aware of the people who may be adversely affected by decisions that are made when creating and maintaining our digital products and services.'
Meet Adam Sweet. Adam joined Which? in 2014 and since then has progressed in his career to become a team leader in our Trusted Traders Client Relationship Team. Which? Trusted Traders enable honest and talented traders to apply to undergo a rigorous assessment process and gives consumers the confidence they'll find the right person for the job. Adam says: ‘The sales adviser role has been one of my favourite roles. You are selling a great product with a big name behind you, and no traders are the same. It gave me an excellent foundation to progress my career!’ To find out more about available roles, visit: https://lnkd.in/gkBwB_e
It’s Stress Awareness Month and Dan Holden Chart.PR, MCIPR CIIC (He/Him/His), senior internal communications officer and Which? Feel Good champion, has experienced his share of stress. Prior to joining Which? I experienced a new work environment where the change in pace and workload hit me hard. Dealing with competing demands and working out of hours saw my stress levels increase every week. Before long, I couldn’t switch off. I wasn't eating well, only catching a couple of hours of sleep a night and being physically ill. Even though I didn't want to be, I was signed off work and all the worry was removed in that very moment. I decided to leave and have since become a Mental Health First Aider to support others. #StressAwarenessMonth #mentalhealth
To bring our D&I vision to life, we’ve asked our colleagues to make a pledge to show how they will contribute towards a more inclusive culture. We caught up with Daniel King to find out more about the pledge he’s made: ‘I’ve always thought of myself as someone who is inclusive, but events from the past year have really highlighted to me that I need to do more to recognise my own privilege as a straight, white male. Conversations during this period relating to matters such as the Black Lives Matter movement, LGBTQI+, and more recently the death of Sarah Everard, have really struck a chord and opened my eyes to blind spots in my thinking that I’ve never really had to properly reflect upon. I pledge to continue educating myself to ensure that I can become a better ally for diverse groups both inside and outside of work.’
As part of Everyone Week, celebrating the launch of our diversity and inclusion vision, we held a Let’s Talk event hosted by Hannah Burke, chair of the Which? LGBT network. Hannah was joined by an external panel to discuss the theme of allyship - why it’s so important and what good allyship looks like in action.
Following the launch of our vision for diversity and inclusion this week, we asked colleagues from across the organisation what diverse representation and inclusion means to them. What does it mean to you?
At Which? we want to create a diverse and inclusive culture where everyone can bring their best self to work. Embracing different perspectives helps us to better serve all consumers across the work we do. This week we’re coming together as an organisation to celebrate the launch of our vision for diversity and inclusion.
