What is the feeling of job security at Databricks?

Be mindful of Hire and Fire

      Pros

Visionary CEO and Founding team with a strong product roadmap

      Cons

Ruthless Hire and Fire policy implemented by a few teams in India expecially GDC Professional Services team. Firing is fully discriminated and leadership is favorable and Biased towards a few people. Lot of Regional Bias and horrible culture. You never know who they fire and that too with a couple of week's notice and in some cases a day's notice. CEO insists on strong technical leadership, but a few leaders in India lack basic knowledge on Databricks. They are mastered in Firing ruthlessly. CEO gives high impact technical presentations, while middle management mumble infront of customers or they shield themselves using RSAs. Structured, performance based and unbiased lay off's based on performance are totally fine. Ruthless firing and being favorable to a specific set of people based on region is unbearable. I am writing with bottom of my heart that mid-senior leadership is safe guarding folks from their region and firing potential talent.

Great company - fast paced environment

      Pros

Databricks is a great place to work if you have a passion for being creative and providing scalable solutions to bring results

      Cons

Job security risks. Things change so fast there is a chance of fear if you do not perform as expected or you have a not so good week

Great company mired by not great sales culture

      Solutions architect
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

I won't say anything surprising here: - The tech is great. I love building things with Databricks - I believe in executive leadership vision - The company is successful. I think my equity is worth something I would write more about the pros here, but others have said most of what I could say.

      Cons

Small cons first - No 401K matching - Our infrastructure policies are weird and delete things you create after a few weeks. So you end up in a situation where that app/pipeline/ML model/agent you made doesn't work just in time for a demo sometimes These aren't a big deal. What is a big deal is that there is not a small chance you will run into a toxic work environment as an SA. - In my < 1 year tenure here, I've heard of multiple instances where other Solutions Architects were fired because they upset sales leadership. My AE was also fired for upsetting sales leadership. - We conduct anonymous culture surveys every six months. On a group call, a sales manager reviewed the feedback someone had written about her and attempted to identify the author of the feedback. It was uncomfortable. - I don't have the time to go into all of the insanity with Salesforce rules and reporting. Or the scorecard sales execs have. Or the many internal calls related to the two. I can only say no rational human will enjoy it

Layoffs and bullying - don't consider

      Pros

You receive stock but who knows if the company will ever IPO or go bust, its a big gamble

      Cons

Layoffs across all depts Bullying Who knows if the company will ever IPO or go bust, its a big gamble You get to work in a crappy Wework Ask for the tenure of your team before you start, most are less than 1 year, this will be the clear indicator of a poor culture.
