      Faculty Associate Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at 2U (Lanham, MD) in Oct 2019

      Interview

This position is very new in the company (created within the last month) after a large company-wide reorganization. It seems like they haven't 100% hashed out what this role looks like or how it should be perceived by current and potential employees. During the interview process, they said they don't want candidates to view this as a "lesser" role than the Faculty Manager position, but as one that helps prepare you for moving into that role, provide excellent support to current Faculty Managers, and that the person for this position needs to be able to flex a lot and not anticipate highly structured days; you make it what you want and need to be nimble. Only one opening for this position was posted at the Maryland and Colorado offices, open to internal and external candidates, making the stakes pretty high as the faculty support branch is highly coveted. I anticipate more openings for this type of role will open up down the road, especially after they've worked through some of the learning curves of introducing a new position. At the end of the 5 rounds of interviews (varying from phone, video, in-person 1:1 and group), there were about 7 candidates they chose between, which is high for final round interviews. The interview process itself was fast-paced considering how many you went through (approximately 2 weeks), was extremely thorough, but nearly to the point where it seemed repetitive by the end. In one of the interview situations, we were provided a prompt to prepare with for the upcoming interview, but during the interview it was not really addressed. While not accepted, no real constructive feedback is provided, which I find disappointing and hard to personally grow and learn from. The staff were nice, everyone there seemed happy with their job, work/life balance, and all seemed genuinely interested in making sure the company thrived. The facilities were great, typical start-up culture, so if you're looking for something extremely corporate, this isn't the place for you. My impression summed up would describe this as thorough, slightly repetitive, good insight into the company structure.
