      Store Manager Trainee Interview

      14 Dec 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Tuscaloosa, AL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at ALDI (Tuscaloosa, AL) in Dec 2017

      Interview

I went to a job fair they were having at a local hotel conference room. They had tables with application on them and a line waiting to speak with a woman sitting at a table. I came prepared with my prefilled application and a resume and went straight to the line. You could hear her asking basic questions like: Are you available full time or part time? Schedule restrictions? Why Aldi? Why did you leave your last job? Etc... When I spoke with her she did go into a little bit more detail because I was applying for a management position. Wanted to know about my management experience. How many people I managed. What type of retail was it? It was basically a screening. I asked a few questions and she told me I should hear something in the next week. She called me that night and asked me to come to the store the next day. Once there we met and did a "get to know you" type of interview. We also talked about benefits, pay, expectations, etc. Once that was over she asked me to wait around on the manager. Once he came and got me, we walked around the store he showed me day to day type of operations, then we went into a full blown interview with detailed questions while we were walking around. He was awesome. They have more interviews next week so I should get an answer after that. I'm feeling confident. It seems like a super fast paced environment and that is something I am looking for.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at ALDI (Indianapolis, IN) in Apr 2026

      Interview

I applied to a listing on Indeed and was directed to complete an additional application on the company website. After submitting the applications, I received an email requesting the completion of a "video interview" via HireVue. I downloaded the HireVue app and used to code provided by Aldi. To begin, they provide the opportunity to complete a few practice questions before initiating the official interview submission. You can do as many practices as you want, there doesn't seem to be a limit or cap. I would recommend that you use this chance to practice as much as possible. Though the practice questions were not the same questions in the official interview, if gives you the chance to get used to the process and the quick timeframe allowed for your answers. The actual interview process involved a series of 8 questions, ranging from situational inquired to questions about your experience and background. You are given 90 seconds to prepare after each question is asked (video of an actor reads the question, then the question is listed on the screen while a timer counts down), then you have a limited amount of time to answer each question, which varied from 90 seconds to 2 minutes if I recall. Once the timer runs out, there is no chance to review the video or rerecord your answers. The last 2-3 questions were multiple choice questions/responses. While I understand that this could be considered by some employers to be a useful tool for sifting or sorting through a multitude of applicants, I do not see the real value of this system. As a seasoned manger with thousands of interviews under my belt, I believe that an interview should be a conversation between two people. I've never had a stopwatch with me while interviewing anyone, limiting their allowed time for answers, then cutting them off when they reach their time limit. It is fairly well known that you should prepare for interviews and do your best to limit your answers to most questions to 2-3 minutes, but this was extreme to say the least.

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at ALDI (Greenville, SC) in Jan 2026

      Interview

1st. Pre-recorded video questions, which were a bit odd. 2nd phone interview with Aldi recruiter. 3rd in-person interview with district manager. 4th teams interview with the regional ops manager. Each interview was about 30 minutes. A good experience. Every interview they point out the fast pace environment with a only a few staff members so speed, coaching and efficiency is a must.

      Interview

It went great for the first part. They called and set up a second interview and then when I was waiting for the interview to start I got an email stating that they were moving on with a different person. I was irritated because I literally signed on and 5 minutes past when the interview was suppose to start I get that email and was left hanging. Idk what kind of crap they are running there but it was highly unprofessional
