I was scheduled for three interviews. The first phone interview was with a recruiter. They were very professional and asked me all the relevant questions about my experience, what programs I used, and what I was looking for. They explained the role thoroughly. It was a typical recruiter screening interview.
I moved to a second interview, which was a zoom presentation of two projects in my portfolio with a senior designer. The interviewer showed up slightly late, and informed me that they needed to take care of a client "fire drill" for a few minutes. The interview started about 10 minutes late. I went over my projects and they asked thoughtful questions. However, they seemed distracted as they were also caring for an infant. Being a working parent, I certainly understand that childcare can be difficult, but it was a bit hard to focus on presenting as they got up and down from their chair several times. I eventually suggested that they hold the baby, which made it easier. They were very personable and I liked speaking with them. However, there were a few incidents that gave me second thoughts. First, they told me that my work was too good for the apprenticeship program. Second, they asked me if the role was a paid position and where it was located. (it is) This made me less confident, as I expect an interviewer to know about the role they are interviewing me for.
I was then scheduled for a third interview, which was also to be a portfolio review with a senior designer. I logged into the meeting link, but no one showed up. After 10 minutes, I sent an email inquiring if the meeting needed to be rescheduled to all three people copied on the meeting email. After 15 minutes I logged off. No one from the company responded or reached out.
