      Recruiting Interview

      24 Nov 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Airbnb (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

My first interviewer was late, bored, and told me that he was looking for people with a lot of experience to join the team. I have 3 years of experience and the hiring manager is looking for people with "9-11, ideally." There was a huge gap between what I have and what they are looking for and at that point, I had no idea why I was invited on site. At the end of the first interview (which was with the hiring manager), he told me I would be cut off if the first few interviewers decided it isn't going well. From that point, it was clear to me I would be cut off. Two interviews later, I was cut off because they are "looking for someone with more experience" and "the team doesn't have enough time to train someone right now." I'm insulted that I was invited on site and then rejected for a lack of experience which my resume clearly reflects. It was a waste of my time and disrespectful on Airbnb's part to treat a candidate this way. I also felt I was boring the hiring manager before I even opened my mouth, as he was about ten minutes late and spoke about his passion for Airbnb with such apathy that I almost wanted to laugh. I left Airbnb with an awful impression of the company and the recruiting team. One last note: one of the interviews spoke about how difficult the interviews can be for engineers, specifically the "values" part where they are basically testing your passion for Airbnb. He talked about how many engineers fail that question, especially foreign candidates, who don't show passion in the "right" way even when they succeed technically in the interviews and are otherwise nice and pleasant people. Company culture is important, but Airbnb's culture does not seem to be one that cares about hiring the best, but rather those who look and sound like themselves. Overall, I came away with an awful impression of Airbnb and its company culture.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at Airbnb (Portland, OR)

      Interview

Went into the pdx office for an in person interview. Was given a tour and was asked to meet with a culture ambassador. Which I thought was weird. The interviewer asked me a lot of different questions and I answered the best I could at the end. He said that he felt like he didn’t really know me personally and in my mind, I thought to myself well maybe you should’ve asked me questions that would help you answer that thought of how can I get to know this guy better personally.

      Question 1

I was asked multiple question regarding my approach to recruiting and achievements. But then the interviewer told me they felt they didn’t know me. It was very weird.

      29 Oct 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Airbnb (Bengaluru) in Oct 2024

      Interview

Recruiter screen, followed by 2 rounds of interviews with senior folks in recruiting. Fully remote role hence online interviews. Interviews were scheduled fairly soon but the feedback took forever to come through. Recruiting coordinator was very weird and rude throughout the process. Was an entitled coordinator by the looks of it. Had no idea about the interview rounds or process.
