I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) in Feb 2023
Interview
I had a a short (30 min) interview with the hiring manager and another employee. A few weeks later I had a full day (virtual) interview with 10+ people. The day started with a 40 min presentation followed by questions, then I had consecutive 1 on 1 interviews with either directors or VPs. Most interviews (except 1) were pleasant and at the same time intense. I truly appreciate the scientific curiosity of the interviewers, this is something I actually enjoyed. However, I also had a director specifically pointing at the length of my postdoc training multiple times, as well as questioning in a negative way the basis for the projects I worked on. Another disappointing experience I had is that the hiring manager sent me the agenda for the full day interview that same morning. The whole process took 2+ months but I never got a formal response.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
A variety of technical questions, most of them focused on the seminar I gave. I was also given a "problem" that I had to solve using my background education/training. One interviewer asked me to pull one of my publications and go through it (not included in my seminar) Were you trained by postdocs in grad school? How big was your research group in grad school?
HM phone screening and onsite interview with presentation. There was a group lunch with few team members. At the end of the day, there was a HR interview. I received a rejection by email.
