The second day after I applied via the careers page, a recruiter from Github reached out to me with a link to a gist that contained two open-ended questions (not difficult to answer, but difficult to pick to important pieces to fit into "half a page" per question) and another one to rate your skills (essentially put 1-5 digits next to each skill). After submitting the gist, they scheduled a call with an engineer that was consisting of Q/A about technical approach to certain tasks and cases and also an exercise where I SSHed to a linux box and tried to find out certain things about it. The whole process was smooth and quick.
