I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Google (Mountain View, CA) in Mar 2022
Interview
After applying online with a referral, I heard back after ~3 weeks and had the recruiter phone interview. After that, I had another phone interview (product question) and then 5 onsite interviews.
For one of the interviews, the interviewer got ~10min late, which was a bit annoying, but she was super apologetic. Overall, the interview experience was positive.
At the time, I was interviewing with Meta too, and for all my interview prep, I pretty much relied on Product Alliance, which helped a lot with my structure and what to focus on during each interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- Imagine you're a PM in Google's consumer hardware organization. What would you build next?
- Pick your favorite messaging app, ideally one you've never worked on. Why do you like it, and how would you improve it?
I did a ton of mocks. A lot of questions I got in the interviews were covered in the Product Alliance interview questions list. Make sure to have your answers ready to common behavioral questions btw!
Very self-driven, first of multiple rounds, where I had to take the initiative to arrive at the problem, constraints, approach, solutions, tradeoffs and reasoning behind it in a matter of 30 minutes.
You would have to do a hiring assessment first, then a recruiter screening follows. First round interview with the hiring manager. Majorly product sense and product improvement. The questions were not direct though.
Overall a lot of steps to the interview process. Talked to different people and had opportunities to ask questions. Many different stages which made it a lengthy process overall. Wasn't too bad.
