      UX Researcher Interview

      2 Mar 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at Google in Nov 2021

      Interview

      1. Initial application and phone call: At the initial phase, you will submit an online application with your background information, details about your relevant experience, attachments of your portfolio and resume. Alternatively, you may also be contacted directly for an initial phone call to discuss your background and experience. 2. Technical Screening (1-hour): Next, a recruiter or HR representative may conduct a technical screen with you. This is a one-hour virtual meeting in which the interviewer will assess your technical ability as a UX researcher to determine if you are a good fit for the job. 3. Case Study Interview (3-hours): If you pass the technical screening, then you will move on to the case study interview. During this three-hour virtual interview, you will be asked to present a UX research project that you have worked on and explain your approach, processes and results. 4. Cultural Interview (30 minutes): The cultural interview is an informal conversation during which the interviewer will assess whether you have the right personality to be a successful fit in the team and company. This interview may include topics such as work culture, work-life balance, passions, interests and values. 5. Code and Design Challenge (4-hours): Finally, if you pass the case study and cultural interview, you will be given a design or coding challenge. This virtual meeting can last from one hour to six hours, depending on the complexity of the challenge. You will be expected to complete the challenge in that time frame and explain your process and results. Following the completion of the interview process, the interviewer may also request additional steps such as providing references, a detailed background check, and a drug test.

      Difficult interview

      Application

      Interview

I had a pleasant time interviewing with everyone but unfortunately their team matching processes is terrible. I got matched to 2 different teams and both times the interviewer did not follow the interview format I was informed about. Since I already passed all of the technical and behavioral interviews, I was told that the team matching interview would be more of a conversation where I can ask more questions about the team. Instead, both times the interviewer asked me technical questions and had me come up with research study plans on the spot. This is not a problem for most interviews but when you’re explicitly told that you will not have to to that, it creates a poor experience

      Interview

Hiring assessment - online personality style test, had to complete multiple situation based questions. The amount you get depends on the role, I got ~60. Questions were trying to gauge how you'd manage conflicts in terms of integrity, organization, quality of work, collaboration, etc.
