      Deal Maker Interview

      26 Jul 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Groupon (Chicago, IL) in Jul 2010

      Interview

Received a phone call from the Manager of Editorial Recruiting and Training. The first initial questions were if I was interested in the position, what type of data entry experience I had, when I would be able to start, and whether i was comfortable using a mac. He may have also asked me about my current job, but I can not remember. We scheduled an interview for that Friday. Here is how that went: Walked in to meet with the guy that called me. Instantly noticed he carried no smile or facial expression on his face. We sat in a small room and he began asking questions. These are the questions I can remember: Why do you want to work here? What experience do you have with deadlines? Do you use Groupon? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? When will you be able to start? What sort of data entry/customer service experience do you have? There may have been acouple others i just can not remember at the moment. I did not get this job and I am not quite sure why as I may have been abit over qualified but the guy interviewing me had a background in writing (I looked him up on LinkedIn) so maybe he was looking for someone with that type of background as I majored in Econ. Just as a note, the guy that does interviews for this position carried no facial expression and seemed like he was in a bad mood at times. I'm not sure if that's how he is or if maybe he was having a bad day but I dont think I saw him smile once. It was really odd. Also, very important: at the end of the interview there was a test. He brought me into a small room with a computer screen and told me he wanted me to check out some Groupon fineprint and rearrange it so it matched the convention groupon uses. On one side he gave me the convention, on the other side he gave me two fineprints that needed to be rearranged. I asked him how long it typically took and he said about five minutes. I rearranged everything as best I could but I am not sure if I did it correctly. For anyone in the future, make sure you ask him exactly how he wants this done as his instructions were somewhat unclear now that I reminisce. If I could go back I would ask him to clarify and be specific. For anyone going after this position I wish you the best of luck and hope this information helps you.
