      Sales Director Interview

      10 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cambridge, MA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in Jul 2019

      Interview

I met with the HubSpot recruiter for a phone interview. After that I had initial phone interviews with 2 different hiring managers. As a candidate, I have never felt more appreciated or respected during the process. In addition, both hiring managers provided constructive feedback that will help me be more effective in future interviews. Based on the interview process, I now believe that the culture that HubSpot portrays is genuine and pervasive through-out the company. One piece of advise I would provide to other candidates is to be aware that you will likely receive more positive vibes during the interview process than you normally do from other SAAS companies. That could be because they are not playing many of the games that other companies play during the interview process to "test" the candidate. But don't necessarily assume that, because the tone of the discussion is cooperative, you are acing the interview.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful review and for interviewing with our sales team in Dublin. I like what you said that the culture is genuine and that our process is transparent, but that the conversational tone and approach doesn't mean we don't screen for strong attributes-thanks for the helpful advice for future candidates! Please thank your friend for referring you and we hope you'll stay in touch. We love meeting with great sales leaders who can help us learn and grow so thanks for making the time. Cheers, Katie

      Anonymous employee
      Boston, MA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at HubSpot (Boston, MA) in Jun 2019

      Interview

At HubSpot they are really focus on finding the right fit for the company, you have a dedicated person during the process to solve any questions you may have and to provide guidance on next steps and areas that require preparation. I want to highlight the level of engagement they have during the process and at every moment they made me feel comfortable and informed. The process itself has several interviews with different stakeholders and all of them are focused on understanding who you are as a person, what are your strengths and your areas of development, all this is done in a really conversational way, doesn't feel like an interview at all and they are truly concern about knowing the person over the metrics or the spotlight achievements. I don't do a lot of reviews but I just want to share this because they are the real deal, their iconic culture code describes really well their values and what they are looking for in new leaders. I really enjoyed presenting in front of them and this was part of the interview process, they gave you the opportunity to share your point of view about their business as an outsider as they are trying also to capture new ideas, they want to find diverse candidates.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

With my existing background, how would I ensure a successful transition into a new industry/market? What can I do to improve diversity in the workforce? What would be my strategy to open a new market and how would I prioritize?

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review - I appreciate you calling out how we strive to get to know you as an individual and how you can uniquely contribute to helping our team grow better, but also that you called out that you also had to present and give your perspective on the business - that assessment at all levels is fundamental to our hiring process. So glad you found the process to be challenging yet made you feel comfortable, and so glad you'll be joining us! Best, Becky
