The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Intel Corporation in Oct 2013
Interview
I had a friend pass my resume to the hiring manager in his group. Got a call withing a few days itself for a phone interview. The phone interview was very casual and he was more interested in what I had done during my graduate work and what sort of job I could expect at Intel. Overall, it was more of a conversation rather than an interview. At the end of which he told me that he was interested in inviting me over for an on-site interview. I have set up the on-site and am currently waiting for it to happen.

Question 1
The questions were mostly on my research work so were not really unexpected. He did make sure to inform me of the on-call nature of the work.

Interview
Process begins with a phone screen with recruiter, followed by hiring manager discussion, then onsite interviews consisting of several one-on-one sessions, where candidates are usually expected to deliver a presentation.
It was pretty straightforward overall. They mainly asked questions about my resume, previous work experience, and the projects and research work I completed during my graduate studies. The conversation was conversational and focused on understanding my background and technical experience.
