      Part-Time Seasonal Replenisher Interview

      15 Nov 2011
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's in Nov 2011

      Interview

Outline I. Application Process II. Interview III. Additional notes I. APPLICATION PROCESS: I applied online via the macysJOBS website for Seasonal Sales Associate. The website advises applicants not to contact the store at which they hope to be hired and all correspondences will be done via email. I was concerned that I would be screened out due to my total lack of work experience. After a week with no response in my email, I went to the location in person and spoke to a manager. I was informed that all hiring is now done through corporate and that they do, in fact, schedule people without experience; however, the manager themselves could do nothing concerning my application until it had been processed by corporate. They told me to continue checking my email. Not entirely reassured, I later searched for a phone number to contact corporate, but was unable to find one. Through the Contact Us page on macysJOBS, I accessed and submitted an online form that allowed me to add further comments concerning my existing application. A day later I received an email allowing me to schedule an interview. When I accessed the scheduling website I was provided with several options of days and times. I scheduled and confirmed for the next available interview slot which was several days away. II. INTERVIEW I dressed in professional attire, made a copy of my resume, and arrived 20 minutes before my scheduled interview time. After 30 minutes of waiting I was called back and interviewed one on one by a manager. At the beginning of the interview I was informed of the position I was being interviewed for-- although I had applied for Sales Associate, I was being interviewed for the position of Replenisher. This was fine by me as I was happy to take any job. They were very friendly and informative-- answering many questions concerning the organization before I could even ask them concerning responsibilities of the job, the expectations of my availability and attendance, uniform, etc. They did review my resume. The interview was not very structured; the manager did not stick to scripted questions. They did put me at ease. At the end of the interview I was offered the position and I accepted it. The offer was conditional on the successful completion of a background check and I submitted the required information at the location. I was informed that I might receive an email asking for the same information; if so, I was to disregard it. I did in fact receive this email a day later. III. ADDITIONAL NOTES Everyone I encountered at Macy's on the day of my interview and since has been extraordinarily friendly and personable. The culture there is clearly people-oriented. However, while the hiring process may be streamlined for Macy's by having applications done online and handled through the corporate office, I was discouraged that I could not contact and speak to a living, breathing person.
