I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Mastercard (New York, NY) in Jul 2025
Interview
Had an internal referral which quickly turned into a pre-screen with a recruiter, followed by 4 rounds of interviews. The first was most similar to a behavioral/cultural fit interview with a director on the team. (it seems that the interview process and volume depends on the team although the company website suggests an interview with the hiring manager directly after the pre-screen). The second round was with the hiring manager. (team lead/VP) Questions were similar to the first interview - they probed about current experience and emphasized understanding of the payments industry. After this round there was a bit of silence which required a few follow-ups with the recruiter. The recruiter eventually responded - suggesting a change in the role I was being considered for on the team. I moved forward and the cycle continued as it was laid out by the recruiter. There was a third round interview with a solutions architect on the team followed by a final round case study presentation with the Director and VP from the first two calls. Details about the case were provided on a Friday afternoon for a Monday morning call.

Question 1
"Why Mastercard" was asked in the first few interviews, though it may be repackaged based on the interviewer. Standard interview questions for an account management role (e.g. how have you helped a past client with best-fit solutioning, etc)
