      Performance Testing Engineer Interview

      26 Aug 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Berlin
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at NVIDIA (Berlin) in Aug 2024

      Interview

Position: Quality & Performance Testing Engineer. I was selected by an NVIDIA employee for the interview process, where I passed the initial screening and then moved on to the second technical stage. After reviewing the requirements, I realized that I fully met them. The interview was initially planned to include four participants, but none of them were QA specialists. We had agreed on a convenient date and time for the interview, but a few days later, the HR coordinator asked to reschedule due to the absence of one of the participants. We rescheduled the interview, and two days before the new date, I received confirmation. However, on the day of the interview, it was postponed again for the same reason—the same participant was still unavailable. I found this odd: a large company like NVIDIA was unable to demonstrate flexibility and responsibility in organizing an interview that had been scheduled across different time zones. At that point, I asked if it was possible to proceed with the interview with three participants instead of four. The HR had already canceled the meeting but then reconsidered and asked to continue at the scheduled time. The interview itself lasted two hours. For about an hour, I detailed my experience, explaining what I had done and how. During that time, I didn’t receive a single question about the position. There was one technical question and an assignment to fix code generated by artificial intelligence. However, when they asked me to fix the code immediately, I declined, explaining that I could complete the task, but I would need more time. The developer insisted that using anti-patterns, which essentially turn the testing pyramid upside down by relying on minimal and even unnecessary unit test coverage, was normal practice and tried to convince me of this. In the end, I got the impression that they were looking for a DevOps + developer engineer who would also take on QA tasks but with a QA salary. By the way salary range was not mentioned and asked at all. Regardless, it was a useful experience. The next day, I received an offer from another company where the interview process was exactly aligned with my role. I can not say whether interview was difficult or easy. I can say it was not coincide with the role which described in vacancy requirements and responsibilities.
