      Bodily Injury Claims Adjuster Interview

      5 May 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance in Mar 2016

      Interview

After completing the online application, I received an invitation to complete a performance assessment. I then had a phone interview with a nice HR rep, who afterwards asked me to fill out an online profile and provide information for a comprehensive background check. Soon afterwards, I was scheduled for an in-person interview with the hiring manager. The in-person interview went very well. I was prepared for the S.T.AR. format questions, and the manager and I really hit it off. The interview ran long and we even discussed a possible start date and salary. A few days later, I received a call from HR telling me I was an impressive candidate and that I did exceedingly well in the interview. I was expecting a job offer, but I was then told they did not have a position for me in Injury and offered me the chance to interview for a job well below my skill and salary level. Obviously confused, I asked if they had filled the position, but I was told the position never actually existed. They do not have an open injury position, they are merely interviewing candidates and creating a pool of future potential candidates. Had I known I was not actually being considered for an open position, I don't know if I would have still applied. It is very inconsiderate of the company to have candidates go through the extensive application and interview process for a job that is not actually available. I declined the offer to apply for the other position. The next day, the Injury position I applied for was re-listed, and the job description still does not say it is for future job openings. The position I was offered instead is not listed at all. Up until the end, the interview experience was very positive and I was incredibly enthusiastic about working for Progressive. However, the dishonesty and inconsideration gave me a bad impression of the company. I hope this behavior is not typical for the hiring process or representative of the company's hiring practices in general.

      Interview

Phone Screening, video-recorded responses to questions, then a 1:1 interview with a team manager. It is best to review the STAR method (watch some Youtube videos) and think of specific scenarios to speak about. You can listen to the question, then click to proceed onto recording your video interview, but you can only re-record 1 time, and you cannot go back to choose your first video response if you do. Be well prepared, and put your best customer service foot forward!
