      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Vancouver, BC) in Jul 2019

      Interview

I began by submitting a resume and a cover letter, while also answering a few questions. I was then sent an email with a customer question that I had to answer as though I was a customer success representative. A few days after, I scheduled my life story interview. During the life story, I was given the option of which previous work experience to focus on and the interviewer asked me questions regarding it - at the end, they did ask me about what I liked to engage in outside of work. Next was the role-playing gauntlet, I completed two chat interactions, one phone interaction, and completed by answering an email. A few days after I was asked to provide 3 professional references and a couple of days after I was offered a position.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Gauntlet chat question: I've been selling in person for a while and someone suggested I look at Shopify's POS. Thing is, $79 a month seems like a lot to sell in person?

      Question 2

Gauntlet chat question: I am in the middle of a huge sale right now and I just realized I screwed up big time! Customers are getting away with free shipping when I want shipping to be $10 for every order. I need this fixed ASAP please!

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify

      Interview

The Life Story interview was a 30 minute chat with one of their Talent Acquisition agents. It went well, though he started off with asking what kind of student I was in high school, which I found strange. I was invited to take part in the Technical Interview a week later. They send you a preparation document, which I found mostly unhelpful. They recommend making your own trial store to help "immerse yourself in the platform" and state that those who open a trial store do better in the Technical Interview, but I found this was not at all the case for me. The role-playing questions I was given had nothing to do with any of the tasks they suggested doing in the preparation document, which I found to be misleading. The questions seemed tricky and I felt that it was a bit much for an interview with someone who doesn't have the experience yet. However, their preparation document did say they would be asking questions that they receive often. The Technical Interview was 1.5 hours and consisted 2 simultaneous chats, followed by a phone call, a typing test, and then an email. All of these were timed. They stress that they are not necessarily looking for the "correct" answer during these tests, but I think they are, or at least it plays a bigger factor in their decision than they are letting on. The entire process, from application to rejection, was 5 weeks, which is ages but understandable as they said they had received 1000 applicants for the position. I really felt that I should have moved on to the next stage (reference check), but I guess with that many applicants, you can be pretty picky. They boast about having a great training program, but the feedback I received seemed to me like they are trying to hire those who they can spend little time training. I regret the amount of time I spent on my Trial Store, considering they did not ask if I had done it, and it was not helpful in the Technical Interview. Keep that in mind if you apply! I will probably keep my eyes on the Careers page to see if any other positions come available, though their rejection email says I cannot apply for this same position for at least 6 months.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How do I add a favicon (chat), why can't my friends and family visit my store (chat), what plan should a merchant sign up for (phone), and why would a merchant's re-launch on Shopify not be successful (email)

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Shopify (Kamloops, BC) in Jul 2019

      Interview

There was an online questionnaire then a 30 minute phone interview. They gave me an appointment and when the day reached I dialed and we had a 30 minute conversation about my previous work experiences especially those related to the customer success role. We connected well with the interviewer and we both enjoyed the conversation. However they did not pick me for the next stage and I accepted the results and moved on

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked how i would react in certain customer service situations for instance handling an angry customer, my teaching skills, my strengths for the role.
