Applied online and was contacted by someone from the talent acquisition team for a phone interview around 2 weeks later. Following the phone interview I was scheduled to have an interview at their HQ in Ottawa which went very well, it was mostly just myself and the "interviewer" getting to know each other and telling life stories very informal (I wore a blouse and dress pants and was very over dressed). I was invited back for a third in person interview which followed the same format, I tried to incorporate a bit more about why I would actually be great at the job and thought it went very well, I asked a lot of technical questions about the position because I was genuinely interested and preparing how I would approach the position if it were to be offered to me. Something the interviewer said when I brought up one of my ideas for the position caught my attention though, she said "those are the types of new ideas that we want the person in this position to bring" (paraphrasing), just by the way it was worded it crossed by mind that I had already been discounted from the position. Later that week the interviewer that I met with called me to tell me that they have chosen to go with another candidate and wished me the best of luck. It was a bit strange that during the entire process I never met the Director of Talent Acquisition (Doug) who technically would have been my direct boss and instead was only interviewed by potential team members. I thought we got along really well (..well this is awkward).
The whole process took about 2 months. I'm still confused as to why I didn't get an offer for the position, I suppose it's not required for companies to tell you why you weren't chosen but it would definitely be helpful for future interviews. Had I been told why I wasn't chosen I would probably rate this experience as positive because at least it would help me improve for future interviews, but the whole process left me feeling confused. WHO WILL I GIVE MY HACKDAYS IDEAS TO NOW?
