After speaking to a couple of existing Songkick employees at a conference they were sponsoring, I wanted to find out more about the company and roles. One of the employees said he'd pass on my details and get someone to speak to me so I could get more information and decide if I wanted to apply, but a few days later I just received a generic email saying "Thank you for your interest in our Software Developer position. The first step is for you to take the Songkick coding exercise."
I was away on holiday for a week by this point, but completed the exercise (the seemingly-ubiquitous "site scraper" test) when I got back, despite not having the additional context I would have liked (and requested). I eventually heard back (by email) nearly two weeks later (although it seems that an email from a few days earlier had gone missing) to arrange a phone call. It took at couple more emails from me to chase getting a date and time set.
The call was with a recruiter, and apparently the next step was to arrange either an in-person interview with the team, but after this call I heard nothing back from SK at all (positive or negative). In general: I was very disappointed in the communication from SK throughout the process.
