I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Target in Nov 2010
Interview
After applying online I received a phone call about 1 week later. Someone from HR called and left me a message. I called back within the hour but the person who had called was no longer available. I was told that she would not be available for the rest of the day. I called back the next day and found out that the person who left the message was off that day. I asked if there was someone else I could talk to. They asked why I was calling. After explaining, they transferred me to someone else in HR. She asked me to come in for an interview and we scheduled it for aa Friday at 2 pm. She told me that I should check in at the employment kiosk in the store. She said that there are some more questions to answer. She directed me to go back and tell them that I was there for my interview when I finished at the kiosk. I decided to go early. This store has 2 computers at the hiring kiosk but one was not working. Someone was on the one that was working and they were applying for a job right then. They were on the computer for an hour. Those of us who were waiting to check in before our interview all ended up being very late for our interviews. We each had gone back to check in and let them know what the hold up was. Since I was "hanging around" for quite some time just waiting to check in I was able to get a glimpse of how the employees treat other, and the general atmosphere in the store. I was pleased to note that they treat each other with a lot of respect and were also able to joke around. I met some staff members who have been employed there for several years. (One was 8, one was 15). I went back for my interview. The team member who interviewed me was very warm and friendly. She did ask questions from a packet. "Tell me a little bit about yourself", "Why do you want to work at Target?" Tell me about a time that you worked as a team. What did you do and what was the outcome?" "What would your former supervisors say is your greatest strength and your greatest weakness?" "Tell me about a time that you made a mistake. What did you do that was wrong and what did you do about it?" When I finished this interview she told me to wait for a 2nd interview. This staff member was also very friendly though she was really busy. She had to have her walkie talkie on during the interview, so we were interrupted a lot. I wondered if that was a test of some sort....how well do I do with interruptions? She then said that that was it and asked if I had any questions. I went home and got a call asking me to come in the next Monday for a job offer. They offered me a seasonal position, which I accepted. I had to go do a drug test and they did a background check. Next step is orientation and then I will be scheduled.
