Standard process: screening, then a call with the hiring manager, followed by a whiteboarding session, and then interviews with cross-functional stakeholders.
The whiteboarding interview felt poorly structured and unrealistic. You’re given 60 minutes, observed by six people, and asked to solve a business problem unrelated to Zendesk, with very little context.
The expectations are unclear and disproportionate. You’re supposed to define the problem, come up with solutions, and produce wireframes – all within an hour. On top of that, wireframes are expected to be created in FigJam, which isn’t really suited for that kind of work.
In reality, the only reasonable approach in this setup is to explain your thinking process. However, interviewers seem to expect fully formed design outputs in real time, which doesn’t reflect how design work actually happens.
Overall, the process doesn’t feel like a fair or effective way to evaluate candidates.
