I have been working at Aegon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent working conditions - flex time, most often 9-5.
    Reasonably friendly atmosphere
Access to company gym (at small fee)
Subsidised eating facilities - extremely good.
Good amount of study days offered per exam.

    Cons

Severe lack of training for new starters.
No rigorous graduate programme set in place.
Rotations between teams isn't as regular as quoted in contracts - sometimes seems no effort being made to meet these promises.

    Advice to Management

Provide willing and eager staff with the appropriate training to therefore improve staff retention and also provide better career development opportunities for existing employees.

I have been working at Aegon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They pay well and have a good remuneration package with discount on your mortgage and yearly salary increases

    Cons

Due to the age of the company the average age is high leading to slow adoption of modern ways of working

    Advice to Management

Get more developers to increase time to market. This will also help getting younger people in to help change to a customer organisation.

I worked at Aegon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generally, it's a good office and they have a good canteen and football pitches. The surrounds in terms of office space are all in place.

    Cons

Too many and at the root cause of the troubles was the move from Scottish Equitable to Aegon.

Scot Eq was a great place to work. Nice office, good teams & traditional ways of working. Staff had a good package twice yearly bonus and good benefits.

    Staff were happy.

When AEGON took over (2007 sort of watershed) the culture changed to a ruthless one - systems outpaced processes.

HR became bullies - aggressive performance management became the norm and cyclical redundancies are the norms now.

    Advice to Management

Stable teams, value people - take a look back on your past as a business. Scot Equitable was great - Aegon is not a good place to be.

    Your HR is a shocker.

I have been working at Aegon part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lovely building, good facilities, car park etc

    Cons

The management are poor, the company don't recognise knowledge and experience. You are micromanaged to the Nth degree. They are happy to see staff leave without any attempt to retain their experience . Very low staff morale.

    Advice to Management

You've got knowledgeable staff with many years experience, speak to them and use them to plan. Many years have been spent going round in circles trying to improve processes which don't work.

    Pros

    Cons

low payer in the industry, too process driven to learn much about the products. High turnover of staff

I worked at Aegon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Honestly there is not much pro... The offices are new and clean , the working environment is not bad

    Cons

The wage is low and you will not get any positive feedback from your managers.... Forget about the training or a career evolution, it's a no go
If you are lucky you will have a decent manager
    No career evolution
The HR department is the worse I have seen, avoid them if you can :(

    Advice to Management

Hire the correct people and renew your HR department!

    Pros

Flat structure where you can get involved in a range of projects. Lots of change and clear targets.

    Cons

Do like to change organisation structure and there are cultural challenges still being worked through.

    Advice to Management

Keep going, keep the communication open and flowing.

    Pros

Team members are really nice people, flexi hours

    Cons

Narrow skill set, using costly technologies that no one really understands, playing catch up with the technology stack, implementing processes which are implemented years ago in other companies, redundancies each year, favouritism within the team is the biggest negative

    Advice to Management

Understand that staff members and human beings and not machines, they sacrifice a lot for the organisation to succeed. So do not discard them as used parts. Think about the current situation rather than focussing only on the future, you will not have that fantasy future if you dont improve your present.
