Pros

The management team are very knowledgable and have created an extremely successful business, this means there is potential to earn well…but only if they like you

Cons

Management here is simply not approachable. They dismiss feedback outright and refuse to consider that anyone else might have a better or more efficient way of doing things. What matters most is agreeing with them, not doing good work. As a result, there’s an obvious clique of “yes people,” and if you’re not part of it, your efforts won’t be valued. Turnover is extremely high, and instead of treating it as a serious problem, senior management seems to find it amusing. That attitude alone says a lot about how little they care about their staff. The working hours are outdated and exhausting. Official hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but you’ll be expected to start early, stay late, and skip lunch. Meanwhile, most competitors dropped these kinds of hours years ago. Micromanagement is out of control. Every task is monitored, every decision questioned, and even branch managers are stripped of any real authority. Their job is basically to enforce whatever upper management dictates. The company is large, but that doesn’t mean you’ll feel part of a team — most people won’t even know who you are. In short, the culture is rigid, cliquey, and dismissive. Hard work goes unnoticed, morale is low, and the environment makes it very difficult to feel respected or supported as an employee.

Pros

Huge business, growing and making acquisitions at a lightning rate.

Cons

The acquisitions mean that all the better estate agents are being bought out. Morally corrupt directors that lie, do not show examples of due diligence but expect it from everyone below them. Steer well away from Charters if you want an employer that treats you with respect and works for you, rather than against you in every aspect. I have had the greatest misfortune to have ever been within stone throwing distance of their lettings directors, they single-handledly bring the professionalism and brand of Charters in the sewers with their devious tactics and consciously inept decisions.
