I worked at Child Maintenance Service

    Pros

Meet new friends .. not much pros to this company.

    Cons

Caseworkers slow on their role of releasing claiments money to them. I can feel customers pain when they paying for our services to collect money and we dont give them it on time due to our poor systems and some workers.

    Advice to Management

    Listem to your customers.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Child Maintenance Service full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Great colleagues - Access to DWP Discounts - Helpful lower management (EO & HEO) - Sports & Social - Flexi-time

    Cons

    - Too much focus on achieving targets - Demoralising work - Low pay compared to rest of DWP and other Civil Service Departments - Poor, complicated IT system which regularly locked up, crashed, error messages etc - Staff leaving in droves due to low pay. - Obsessed with telephony availability

    Advice to Management

    - Listen to staff - they are verbally abused by customers every day and staff are told "that's just how it is". Every other government department has a warning that they won't tolerate their staff being abused (physically or otherwise). Why should it be acceptable for CMS staff?

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Child Maintenance Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A kind of blitz spirit amongst the contact centre team, and in general the lower management were both helpful and knowledgeable.

    Cons

The work itself was relentlessly demoralising - a combination of the nature of the situations you were getting involved with, and the emotions that people brought to you as a result.

    Advice to Management

It is not akin to running a contract centre for a commercial business, not should it be treated as such. Do more to manage the negative affect that the job has on your staff.

I worked at Child Maintenance Service part-time

    Pros

Sports and Social Flexi time No Bank Holiday working Training Courses Free car parking Shopping discounts Staff canteen Kitchen facilities for staff use

    Cons

Low pay compared to the rest of DWP and for the amount of work involved. Alot of Managers and staff are downright bullies, despite their supposed "anti bullying policy". they say one thing on record, then take you into a private office and say what they like to you, which is often derogatory, threatening and intimidating. If you report it, it is either justified somehow by management, glossed over, blamed on yourself,...

    Advice to Management

Sort out the bullying problem and increase the pay. Start treating staff like adults instead of naughty children.

I worked at Child Maintenance Service for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are no pros to working for Child Maintenance Service - they're supposed to be there to help provide financial support for children but this very rarely happens thanks to inadequate IT systems that spend more time down than actually working.

    Cons

IT systems that never work properly and a management structure who have never actually worked on the front line yet introduce so called improvements that are supposed to make the job easier but make it ten times harder.

    Advice to Management

Try actually working on the front line and doing the job then you'd realise just how inadequate the IT system you have really is.
