Pros
While these vary from team to team, in my experience the best parts of working at Guidewire have been as follows: * Good work life balance and flexible work arrangements (e.g., Work from Home) * Opportunity to work with smart people * Opportunity to interact with customers who are (in general) big fans of the product
Cons
With the caveat that this comes from the perspective of someone who is not part of product development or sales, make sure to screen for the following if you are considering working here: * Career paths are non-existent; in order to be promoted you need to be in the right place at the right time and/or have the skills to play politics well. * Limited to no investment in training. Unlike many of my past employers, there is no pre-defined budget per employee to take courses or attend conferences. * Single vertical focus leads to senior management with "P&C insurance blinders". Ideas and trends from outside the P&C insurance industry are often ignored. At the same time, the single biggest qualification within the company is having many years of experience in P&C insurance. * Product Dev and Sales rule the roost; contributions from other organizations (e.g., marketing, IT, finance) are not really valued by senior management (especially the CEO).
