Pros

Protiviti has a great culture and hires a lot of bright, fun people. The work life balance is great as the hours are not too long and you start off with 20 paid days off in your first year. There is a clear path for growth within the firm, and they reward their employees for their high performances. For lower-level employees, there are a lot of opportunities to work with Directors and Managing Directors.

Cons

Its a niche consulting firm (which could be listed as a pro), but if your interests do not align with the group you're in, then you will not enjoy the work (Internal audit, Regulatory Compliance, Technology). It can be a struggle to control the types of projects you get as a lower-level consultant or senior consultant and there is a good chance you will be staffed on a large production style project during your first year. Pay is fine, but lower than competitors.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, your feedback is very important to us! I am glad you have been having a chance to work with many people within our firm, particularly at various levels. I have truly valued the opportunity to grow throughout the course of my career. I encourage you to use those CTO days to do something fun and recharge. I encourage you to have an honest and open conversation about the type of work experiences you have to achieve with your Talent Manager and/or Career Advisor. Both are advocates for you to achieve and obtain the professional development opportunities you would like to during your career. I realize that these conversations can be hard to get started, but I can tell you from experience that people really do care here about your growth and that your interest align with those of the projects you are working on.

Pros

1) Chicago office has a good culture, overall. It’s not perfect but most of the people are great. 2) Work-life balance score has been solid (about 5+ years of insights here) 3) Although it was not great this year, Incentive compensation has overall been pretty good over the course of 5+ years. Much better than big 4 in my experience.

Cons

1) Since 2023, the culture hasn’t been great for a variety of reasons (mainly due to sluggish performance and growing too fast) 2) It feels more like a temporary staffing agency versus a consulting firm for a lot of the time. 3) There has been an awkward push for a return to the office and more business development focus that is in stark contrast to what most Protiviti people value. 4) Most people I talk to say they are not motivated by most of the MDs they interact with (this is significant in my opinion).
