Pros
Wayfair is the best place I've ever worked. Everyone around me is incredibly smart and I feel like I am constantly learning. There is a strong culture of being willing to help others. This means you'll learn more, the people around you will be smarter, and your ideas will constantly be refined because there is such frequent feedback. Beyond just being around other great Data Scientists, I truly enjoy the time I spend with my coworkers. Another huge plus is the work life balance. I can work from home if I don't have meetings and the hours are flexible so long as you get your work done. I feel like I accomplish more and work less than my previous consulting & data science jobs because my coworkers are so supportive and there is never intense pressure. Don't get me wrong, there is a high standard for work product, but the culture is never to judge people, just the work they produce and to help them get their work better. There is also a strong focus on data such that business stakeholders have a lot of buy in for data science projects (which, believe me, is amazing as a data scientist). It is incredible to me how we plan large scale experiments and how we are willing to fund making training labels for projects like visual search. The buy in also comes with a lot of cutting edge technologies and there is a lot of opportunity to learn these technologies from experts within the company. For example, there is a group that runs weekly meetings on how to best use big data technologies like Spark and Presto that are open to all data scientists.
Cons
I think our salaries are slightly below average (the price to pay for the work life balance though). Because Wayfair is growing so much, a lot of time is spent conducting interviews. It's a good skill to be able to evaluate people, but it can also be a time sink.
