Working at Wise is the equivalent of speaking to a grown-up for a few minutes before you realise it’s actually just 3 (mean) labradors in a trench coat. Brilliant brand and marketing that masks an internal culture of total disorganisation and toxicity. In your time at Wise you will hear many times that working there is ‘not like working anywhere else’, but as far as I could tell this was a cleaner way of saying, ‘we have no intention of taking responsibility for how awful it can feel to work here, and none of the self-awareness required to change’.
The old guard on staff have picked up some very bad behaviours over the years. If you are amidst interviewing, I might find a way to figure out how long your leadership has been working at Wise. If it’s over 2-years, you might dig a little on the culture and ethos of the people running your potential future team. Many folks in leadership have very limited experience working elsewhere in the tech industry, and it significantly clouds what they consider normal or good.
Enter at your own risk, and for those of you at big tech firms thinking of switching - I may reconsider if you are leaving any money on the table.
