Good company gone bad

Pros

- Some wonderful and smart people scattered across the business - Free lunch on Fridays - OK compensation and benefits - Great views from the office

Cons

- Tyrannical member of senior management who is making everyone's lives a misery. The individual in question has been reported to HR by at least 9 different people within the past two years for offences ranging from bullying and reducing employees to tears to provoking mental breakdowns. No repercussions have followed, and indeed the woman in question now boasts that reporting her to HR will result in you losing your job. Despite only having a single employee directly reporting to her, she somehow has influence over the hirings and firings across the business, meaning everyone in the company is afraid of her and can do nothing about her behaviour. The MD in London continues to give her power and support that seems to contradict how everyone else in the business views her. The bullying, scape-goating, shout-first-ask-questions-later attitude has started to be adopted by other members of the company, turning the atmosphere toxic. - Attempts to replace the warm, family atmosphere with a corporate 'hire and fire' culture is resulting in a climate of negativity and mistrust in the company.

Pros

Still some amazing people left Free food - breakfast and Friday lunch Dev talks Office library Team activities like pumpkin carving and gingerbread house decoration. Other social activities.

Cons

Flextrade used to be an amazing place to work. I would have gladly recommended it to any of my friends. Unfortunately in the past couple of years, the organisation has changed significantly. Flextrade used to be a learning organisation, an office packed with inspiring people who were keen to learn and keen to mentor. I personally attribute my passion for my work to the amazing people I've worked with. The ethos was contagious and it was impossible to not get carried away with this wave of passion for building software the right way. Things have changed a lot since. Some key people left including the Head of development and the environment in the organisation has changed since then. It's extremely discouraging that such a key person wasn't replaced. Other incredible managers left and were never replaced. The environment had become extremely toxic ever since and people have been shouted it and it seems acceptable. It feels like a few key sales people seem to be dictating everything within the organisation including client services and software development. The number of people in development in the London office seem to have dwindled considerably over the past two years and what used to be an organisation thriving on innovation, seems to be constantly fire-fighting. As things, stand now, I would not recommend Flextrade as a workplace. That said, I deeply care about Flextrade and really hope they open their eyes and acknowledge and alleviate this downward spiral.

Pros

Nice office with great view over London Friday lunch Breakfast

Cons

The company is stuck in the 90s. People are resources and their opinions don't matter. The perfect employee needs to be willing to compromise and accept whatever direction the management proposes however delusional or unachievable this might be. If there is no physical time to implement something, it still needs to be done somehow because it has already been sold to the client! I have never dealt with such unreasonable business expectations in my life. There are a few top management people whose opinions trump everything, even common sense. One example would be that the financial world is not ready for the web yet (or html5 how they like to call it). Management often behaves childish, they are not able (and do not care) to understand any arguments or limitations no matter how valid, but would rather candidly ignore any concerns raised hoping they would go away. They will also get rid of anyone who does not fit this culture. They had such amazing people working for them, but all have now naturally given up trying to make it work. I would have gladly recommended this company to anyone 2 years ago, but it has now become unbelievably bad. Avoid.
