I worked at General Atomics full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Pension, health insurance, year end bonus (if you qualify), work is interesting and challenging, good work life balance

    Cons

Salaries were below market when compared to other companies

    Advice to Management

Perform a market survey to compete with other companies in regards to salary.

I have been working at General Atomics full-time

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn, growth is not hard . There are a lot of talented employees who work here and it is a good thing for innovation but it can be a challenge in growth within the organization.
    Flexibility for taking vacation.
Nice people overrall and good culture.
    Family oriented.
    Great benefits

    Cons

    unfair pay.
You have to start a new role to get more pay.
if you stay in the same role chances are you are doing a lot for your pay.
The salary ranges are 20k and you will be surprised people with less experince make more.

I worked at General Atomics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Strong defense customer relationships.
    Decent pay and benefits.
    9/80 Schedule
    Patriotic Senior Leadership (Blue Family)

    Cons

    Weak organization.
    Poor management communication and structure.
    Lack of systems engineering.
Many kingdoms and fiefdoms of political alliances.
'Never time to do it right, always time to do it again after it fails'
    Significant turnover of employees.
Many people killing time until they retire or get vested in retirement accounts.
Many people here only for flexible 9/80 schedule.

    Advice to Management

Overall not a very well organized company. Mission Systems still believes its about 10x smaller than it is. E-mails and post it notes are not ways to disseminate information. Software is mostly undocumented and people seem proud of that. Poor quality software and system integration has been delivered to customers who have better options in marketplace. Software testing is rubber stamp only with no real power to reject poorly written code.

The MQ-25 contract loss was actually a blessing in disguise because the design teams and company were not ready to deliver.

I worked at General Atomics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I started there in the Photonics div and it was a blast. Later I worked on some very interesting high power government programs that were very interesting and challenging. The Engineering staff I worked with was top notch and I learned a lot. My salary was a good and I routinely saw good raises. Then with a change in divisions and management it all became toxic

    Cons

I witnessed incompetent senior engineers that had others do most of the design and then take all the credit. Nepotism and other religious groups are alive and well there. When you have been there over 10 years you had better watch your back. They forced me out after having years of good reviews for no good reason other than I made to much. I am aware of others that are still there that are facing the exit door as well. GA does very little promotion from within.

    Advice to Management

GA has many divisions where an individual could be transferred to rather than letting them go. GA does not value the employee and just looks at them as a resume that can be used leverage for new contracts.

I have been working at General Atomics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    9/80 schedule and the benefits

    Cons

The morale of the department is low. There is no sense of leadership and no career path. There is a high turnover rate and people are moving into better opportunity. There is also a lack of promotion and opportunity to grow.
