Pros

It's always rewarding helping clients reach their goals and make progress that transfers to their home life. Parents are always grateful when they are able to see positive changes at home, and it makes all the difficult days worth it. BUT you will feel this same way at other ABA clinics and make special connections with the kiddos there too.

Cons

Where do I begin. ABA is all about helping kids with ASD learn skills necessary to be successful in life- at home and in school. As with any helping profession, you should be able to safely assume the people working in the field to be kind, supportive, and respectful. Sadly, these are not words that accurately describe management at any of the three centers Help Hope Solutions has in the Dallas area. “A team is only as strong as its weakest link”, and unfortunately, the weakest links tend to be in leadership roles across centers. This company allows its employees growth opportunities, however, the selection/promotion process is not filtered or managed. Anyone can move up in this company without restriction. There are college graduates with prior ABA experience in RBT positions and people who have never attended and/or never completed any level of college in higher roles like team leads, coordinators, and supervisors. You just have to be a follower and you're a qualified candidate. Several people in leadership positions do not have any previous experience or training for those positions. Not one supervisor has had any type of leadership or management training before or after being promoted to supervisor. This has created several poorly maintained teams and a lot of disrespect toward and between employees. Management does NOT like to be questioned and will attempt to “push” you out if they feel you are questioning any process put in place or decision made. The training process is basically a time to show how well you absorb information after being told once, maybe twice. If you sink, you will be judged, talked about behind your back and your capabilities questioned without receiving any professional feedback to improve. Because of this, the clients end up being the ones who suffer. Least to Most intrusive restraints are used on clients across centers, however, there is no official restraint training employees are required to go to, resulting in continuous and lasting physical harm to therapists as well as sometimes unsafe restraints being used on clients. I’ve personally been told the owner does not want to spend the money for this training. RBT’s are also not allowed to give any truthful information about a client to their parents at pick-up UNLESS it is positive, and often incidences occur that are not logged and kept from parents by the direction of the supervisors. There is a strict "no gossip" policy, but there is no one worse than the management when it comes to gossiping about the staff, kids, parents, and each other. Employees who put in a notice of intention to leave (for any reason) are treated so unfairly, there wasn't one person (during my employment here) who fulfilled their 2 week notice. There were also multiple no call no shows who did not put in a notice, which is more a reflection of the company in my opinion. The turnover rate is far beyond what it should be and is continuously growing. It is truly a toxic environment to work in, and as a mental health activist, do yourself a big favor and keep looking. This job is not worth the mental and physical toll it will take on you.

Pros

The kids are the only enjoyable part of the job

Cons

If you want to work somewhere where you’ll learn the ins and outs of ABA, grow as a behavioral therapist, be appreciated and feel comfortable and enjoy/love your job, then this place is NOT for you! What you’ll really be getting is brushed off when you have questions, bullied if you have suggestions, gossiped about by supervisors, the owner, etc. to coworkers, other supervisors and the clients parents whether you’re still at the company or not. You’ll be thrown under the bus for things completely out of your control. You’ll hear higher ups complaining about/ gossiping about the kids. There’s absolutely no support and the second you walk through the door, you’re being set up to fail. You can’t even speak to someone in confidence because your conversation will spread like wildfire through a text to other supervisors. The supervisor cares more about being on her phone, going out to lunch for 2-3 hours, or leaving early to go get a tan or whatever it is she does. Need a question answered? You’ll be lucky if you ever hear back. Have an emergency? Close your eyes, spin around three times and whoever you grab will probably be more help than the supervisor because she’s never around anyway and neither is the bcba. Toys are broken to pieces, books are ripped and kids are bored out of their minds with nothing to play with and the people who could do something about it don’t and they don’t seem to care anyway. There’s no structure in this place. It’s not worth the stress. Any positive reviews on this place are definitely written by probably a manager. Do yourself a favor and go literally ANYWHERE ELSE because this place is an absolute disaster/nightmare/whatever. You pick. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. And then I’d double it.

Pros

The kids are the best part of the job. Making an impact in these kids lives makes everything else tolerable. Pay is above average for early RBT's. Staff is fun and friendly, most people are friends and hang out with each other outside of the clinic. Company pays for Relias RBT training and certification. Great if you need to become an RBT and don't plan to stay at the company for long. Opportunities for growth if you do everything management says without complaints.

Cons

Where to begin... when you are first hired it seems to be a well functioning company, however after being there for just 30 days you will see it is far from Fortune500. There is extremely high turnover and minimal to no staff appreciation from management. This is evident in the staff area which haas minimal seating of two old couches one of which is tattered and looks older than the company. Management seems to be behind the times with paper data collection only and graphing all done by hand. The owner is the only BCBA for two locations, there is NO ONSITE BCBA ever and the Owner of the company rarely interacts with staff or anyone besides management on the rare occasions she is there. The owner allows personal friendships with the clinic supervisors to cloud good judgement and has put blind faith in her that will end up ruining the business. Management running the clinic do not really know what they are doing nor how to effectively manage employees. They consistently prove their unprofessional-ism by gossiping about staff, current and former, and take everything personally, upper management is rarely available on the floor for staff questions or help with clients, spending most of the workday in the office, leaving at any time of the day for coffee breaks without ever telling the staff, early lunches, eyelash appointments, and general "emergencies" to pick up her kid from school. Staff has to purchase their own sensory toys for clients, as many toys are broken or no longer work after being donated by management from their own children. There is no structure in this place and management does not seem to care about making positive changes. Know what you're getting yourself into before making a commitment here! If you are truly interested in learning foundational knowledge of ABA, this place is NOT for you.

Dear former employee, Thank you so much for your feedback. As always, we appreciate it. First of all thank you for acknowledging that there are some pros for working at HHS especially the fact that professional growth is available for those who follow company policy. I do want to take some time to address some of your cons. First of all, you are correct - HHS is not a Fortune 500 company. It was never intended to be one and it will never become one. Also, you are correct about me not being present lately. I’m sorry if my taking a medical leave of absence to get treatment for cancer interfered with your ability to do you your job. I can guarantee you that it affected my life more than yours. But, for what it’s worth I’m sorry for not being there to give you a pat on the back and tell you that you are doing a good job doing a job that you are paid to do (and by your own accounts, being paid very well). However, please do not confuse my inability to be physically present with my ability to effectively monitor and further clients’ progress. I can assure you that I was answering clinical questions and writing treatment plans 2 days post massive surgery. I made sure all HHS clients continued to make gains in their programs. You are also correct about me being the only BCBA for a while but that is usually what happens when BCBAs give 3 days notices when they leave. But, I’d rather work 60 -80 hours/week than dismiss clients with no notice and nowhere to go or lay staff off. As far as your suggestion to hire BCBAs from outside, with all due respect, that is not your call. Based on this review and similar ones on this site it’s is very obvious that waiting for the right person (loyal, able to speak their mind in person as opposed to on social media platforms) was so worth it! But I’m sure you’ll be happy to hear that this situation has been rectified. Jess is doing a wonderful job as the lead BCBA at the Windcom office and more BCBAs will join our team at the other locations in the very near future. As far as any of our staff members getting eye lash extensions and lunches (even extended ones) I’m sure you are aware that no company has any saying (and we shouldn’t!) in the way employees use their time off. Regarding personal emergencies, we treat everyone with compassion and respect and allow unplanned time off for specific situations. I’m more than sure you used this benefit at some point during your employment with HHS. And yes, I like paper and pen data collection because it gives me more clinical information. However, you were not part of our company when we did try the electronic data collection and it did not work for us. So yeah, when I comes to this I gladly prefer not to join you in the 21st century. Anyways, thank you for being part of HHS. We value all our staff and their efforts to improve the lives of our clients. Also thank you for giving me the opportunity to address your concerns although it would have been more productive to do so in a face to face meeting instead of this public platform.
