Pros

People on shop floor are lovely, ok-ish money.

Cons

MANAGEMENT!! Is the biggest downfall for wsm branch, it’s a multi million pound company but feels like a family run business, if your face doesn’t fit then I can assure you they’ll find a way of getting rid of you. The management team is ran so poorly.. the manager that runs production is really inappropriate and derogatory towards women and he just tells everyone what they want to hear, there is no confidentially there everyone will know everyone’s business even if you’ve asked for it to be kept private! If you walk through the office you can hear EVERYONE in the office being vile about staff say for example if someone made a mistake etc they will happily talk about it in front of everyone or won’t hesitate to pull people up on it in front of others which makes you feel so small. There is no stability in your job role you start as agency then you have a flexi contract which means nothing just means they can get rid of you at any point and they’ve got rid of some excellent staff over people that don’t have the right attitude etc but they will stay because there best mates with higher management. It’s very clicky, everyone knows everyone some way or another usually through family or school friends. If you want to keep your sanity I would avoid wsm branch at all costs. I wish I didn’t have to put 1 star I wish I could put 0!!

We're sorry you feel this way and would encourage you to raise any concerns locally with your management or HR. We always look to keep agency staff on a longer term basis, offering permanent roles whenever headcount allows.

A Cost-Cutting German, White Late Middle-Aged Boy's Club

Pros

Plenty of resourceful colleagues who wanted to turn this dinosaur into a more agile and forward-looking organisation. Many of my colleagues were brilliant but as frustrated as I eventually became.

Cons

Very old school and German-centric. No empowerment of employees, no diversity as of gender, age and cultural background. A suppressive organisation where control of employees was highly valued and empowerment was not part of the dictionary. If you had not worked there for 30 years, your opinion was not worth a lot. I am actually very sad to state the above as I learned to know so many good people in this company over quite many years in different management roles. I have also seen some brilliant external expertise brought in to cover skills gaps but after trying their hardest for a few years, they decided to leave.

Pros

Dedicated group of employees who strive hard to deliver against the odds for their customers. Broad client base using the products for a variety of uses, makes life interesting. Strong position in the market

Cons

No work life balance, company states that’s all up to you, but offers no help in that area. 3 years of cost cutting has simply redistributed workload to an already stretched workforce. Oppressive central management style. Micro managing and utilising technology to facilitate micro management. Erosion of terms and conditions and no engagement with workforce in key issues that affect them.
