I worked at MHR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. MHR provided its employee a solid platform for self development
    2. Good people all around and great culture within the company
    3. Internal promotion rate is excellent
    4. Competitive salary and good employee benefit package
    5. Free parking space
    6. No micro management as management trust you to get on with your work
    7. Very stable company, so you don't have to worry about redundancy. Lots of people with over 10-years with the company, shows people are happy working for the company.
    8. Employee contribution is recognized and celebrated monthly, quarterly and annually.
    9. Overall I have had an amazing 2-years at MHR and I will certainly recommend the company to anyone looking to work for a good company. I only left because I relocated to London with my family, otherwise, I will still be working for MHR

    Cons

Personally, I didn't have any negative experience working for MHR. However, it does not mean the company is 100% perfect, surely there is room for improvement, for instance, being proactive rather than reactive to employee management.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be a bit more responsive when issues are raised, as sometimes, they are slow to react until the situation gets a bit awkward.

I have been working at MHR full-time

    Pros

New offices and location, good opportunities if you are selected.

    Cons

Only the customer feedback is considered
    High turnover
    Lack of flexibility

    Advice to Management

Stop being defensive your recent replies only serve to prove that recent comments have foundation. I doubt that any employees will come and discuss issues with you now they believe they will be told concerns are nonsense and MHR don't want people who raise issues and that they can be easily replaced with the 27 other replacements?

I have been working at MHR full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nice colleagues

    Free parking

    Progression if you want

Good pay for Nottingham but you have to earn it

Average leave but additional leave can be bought (see cons)

    Good enjoyable work and challenging

Good training when start to help understand system

    Cons

Too young and inexperienced management across the team and business in general, don't give jobs on skills more if face fits or to keep people who may leave the business rather than get appropriately skilled managers in instead

No consistency with dealing with concerns just get fobbed off

Hard work isn't rewarded as certain areas of business aren't seen as important by directors so hard workers get paid same pay rise as people who just float along on minimum work to get through the day

Benefits such as bought leave are forced to be not used when business needs requirements are higher due to targets not being where management want them and done with no advance notice which is unprofessional
(Although paid back, people buy and plan having additional leave so management should respect this)

    Advice to Management

Get in managers who have skills to manage employee management

Don't change processes constantly as causes issue and low moral as people don't know day to day what is required from them or anyone in the team and just causes frustration

Inform team of up coming changes and ask for feedback from team before implementing as they can tell you more changes or issues that maybe beneficial to the process or have concerns

Reward harder working staff to make people feel valued

I have been working at MHR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Office locations are alright as is parking.

    Cons

Poor communication from management to staff and from department to department. Unrealistic expectations and no understanding (or caring) that you have a home life. Expected to work overtime to cover up the mess resulting from customers being promised whatever they ask for but no resources being provided to deliver. The problem in Midland’s large outsourcing department is that customers just hear “yes” from the salesman, the salesman gets a contract signed, passes the project to service delivery, they do a job on half the information because the salesman doesn’t care anymore and then when the project goes live HRO find that the profit element of the contract has been creamed off leaving a budget of 2.5p to deliver. If you ever visit Head Office and have the privilege of seeing the sales force gathered around Mr Chairman the problem is immediately apparent – a bunch of slickly dressed used car salesmen, some of whom are members of the prestigious Chairman’s Club £££££££. I’ve often wondered if the organisation would function better if departments were encouraged to talk to one another. Managers probably do but nothing filters down. Those smart suits are there to impress and make the place look professional but Northgate achieve the same without the suits and boots and are many, many times bigger and are truly international. Incidentally on the subject of the smart suits, take a look at the guys socks – they are often holed or worn through at the heel. A perfect metaphor for Midland! A recent review (extremely positive and so fake) comments about people leaving instead of complaining. If you do complain whilst employed you will quietly disappear one Friday afternoon at about 3:30pm as per usual management practice!

    Advice to Management

Sweep away the whole top layer, bring in new blood and start again. Although they tried this a few years ago starting with a new CEO from Mars the confectioners. He lasted about 2 months.

I worked at MHR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Made some good friends in the 2 years I was there.

    Cons

Very young staff and young seniors and team leaders with no people skills. No room for growing in your career unless you fit in. The training they give you is appalling with even younger staff trying to train you (this is a big downfall). No issues are sorted but just brushed under the carpet. Managers have all the talk but no idea how to manager. The staff come and go so fast it’s like a revolving door. Wages are appalling for the work you do. No respect or phrase for anything or anyone. STAY AWAY

    Advice to Management

Stop being something your not, if anyone needs Traning it will be all managers. You might look the part with the clothes and the car but remember it’s the staff who do the real work

I worked at MHR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent parking, decent office locations although isolated. Good catering.

    Cons

Do not believe the good reviews. Britannia House managers have been told to submit good reviews and if you know where to find the meeting agenda and minutes (left on the printer) Glassdoor has been discussed at Board level. For “growth” read “replacing staff lost through high turnover”. For a company whose business is HR they have a lot to learn – or more to the point management just need to treat employees (not “colleagues” as that word is not allowed) in the same way as other employers do and in the way employees expect in 2017. Several comments say the company is rooted in the 1980s but the 1950s would be more appropriate. If you can accept being treated like a naughty child, being told what colour socks to wear and having every last ounce of work squeezed out of you then tug on your forelock, doff your cap and join up. As for the dress code, there is something quite sweet about all those young men naively dressed up to the nines for their first job. Always remember, “Though shalt have no other God but Midland” and “Midland is proud of its traditions”, just like a boys only public school. The company keep saying they are all about growth – but there is nothing in it for the everyday employee except for panicked short-term decisions, huge workloads, unnecessary pressure, low morale, more unreliable software needing hot fixes, penny-pinching pay rises and very little in the way of thanks. As per the header, beware the fake positive reviews. They are the ones with a reply from HR with the odd negative comment included in responses to put you off the scent.

    Advice to Management

Employ enough colleagues to actually do the work needed. This will massively improve morale and give the customer what they pay for (and stop Midland having to routinely lie to them). Look at competitors and ask why you are constantly losing staff to Access Group, Capital One and Northgate.
