I worked at MS Amlin full-time

    Pros

    Some nice people, some flexibility

    Cons

Managers manage based on favouritism rather than competency. An environment where its all about 'face fitting' Some employees do very little and it gets overlooked.

I have been working at MS Amlin full-time

    Pros

A good bunch of people on the ground Pay and benefits package is good Flexible working scheme has been well implemented

    Cons

Communication from Senior Management / Executive team is terrible. Often posing more questions than they set out to answer and leave employees feeling very confused A complete lack of career progression / succession planning Lack of accountability for business decision making and delivery of projects Through lack of investment in technology and people, a lot of IT's work is clearing up the mess left by poorly delivered projects and hand holding old business critical legacy systems that are on their last legs. No space or room for innovation.

I worked at MS Amlin full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    * ‘Some’ genuine and knowledgable individuals (however far and few between). * A nice office, if you like the prestige of the city. * Tend to overpay against the market.

    Cons

    * The attitude and practices from management are outdated and severely disappointing. This is most evident as top down problem solving where the ‘adults’ head into a room and come out to tell the ‘juniors’ what to do. * Backstabbing is practiced as an art form. Management (the boys network) are more interested in politics and self preservation than team work and problem solving, especially in times of difficulty. * Scapegoats are frequently found to cover for for poor performance and decision making by management. * Attitudes to diversity and equality by management were especially disappointing in this day and age! * Little to no ethnic diversity in middle / senior management. More ethnic minorities working for the Leadenhall Building washing the dishes, cleaning the washrooms and on the foyer. * Survival (let alone progress) depends on your line manager liking you and also not needing a scapegoat. * HR support is a joke. Thus the management, ‘boys network’ and culture prevail over any hollow ambition to be a modern company. * IT was hamstrung by having to deliver yesterday’s technology tomorrow. Zero agility and massively frustrating. * As an ethnic minority I chose to leave.

I have been working at MS Amlin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Nice building and ‘some’ decent colleagues. Only real upside is that it’s owned by the Japanese who will no doubt strive to ensure it comes good ... eventually.

    Cons

This place is a back stabbing and spineless culture of chaos. Consequently it has resulted in an inability to attract and retain quality talent. It lurches from crisis to crisis and it’s HR function is the worst I’ve come across in my 20 years in the corporate world.
