Pros

Some genuinely great and smart people Nice offices Early finish on a Friday

Cons

I regret to share my disappointing experience working at Mayborn. The company's lack of a consistent strategy has created a chaotic work environment, with frequent shifts in strategic direction (you never know what’s up or down) and a noticeable absence of long-term planning. Leadership is unaligned, there’s an ingrained tendency to agree in meetings and then pursue personal agendas outside those confines. This dissonance is evident everywhere but especially at the highest levels, contributing to an audacious lack of cohesion throughout the entire business. The organization seems trapped in a cycle of restructuring, implementing changes at least once sometimes twice a year. Unfortunately, this process seems more about personal connections than merit, leaving employees uncertain about their future based on how well they align with certain leadership. The blame culture at Mayborn is pervasive, hindering any sense of responsibility or team spirit. Departments operate in silos, lacking a shared vision, creating an unhealthy and counterproductive work environment. In summary, the toxic culture at Mayborn stems from its leadership, creating an atmosphere to avoid. Despite a thin veil of positive employment aspects (nice offices, early Friday finish), the underlying issues persist. HR will no doubt respond to this review and explain the issues being down to economic challenges and business maturity, they’re better off saving their time and energy giving a worthless reply to this and instead try and implement some genuine HR governance to address the core problems. This place demands serious introspection and change to become a more functional and employee-friendly environment. Avoid.

Thanks for your feedback. As you’d expect we do want to respond to address the points you’ve raised. On your first point regarding a lack of alignment and high levels of change – it has been a challenging period for us and many other businesses and we have refined and evolved our strategy to ensure we put current and future consumer needs and expectations at the heart of our approach. Change is always difficult and as we embed new ways of working this can cause some disconnects while we adapt and adjust. Unfortunately, part of the change has meant organisation restructuring and a small number of job roles have been placed at risk as a result. We are working with those impacted to identify alternative opportunities where possible. We have worked very hard to create the conditions for a positive culture through leadership development, structural changes and clarity on ways of working to remove and break down any silos or areas of tension. We’d be keen to have a direct conversation with you to understand any specific examples of where your experience has been different so we can take action. We have to strongly disagree with your suggestion that there has been any level of personal bias towards those impacted by redundancy. As a team, HR always reviews and checks all proposals to ensure that any decisions impacting roles are based on critical business rationale and not personal relationships. In terms of your view on the role of HR we do think we have strong governance and well-developed policies to protect and support all of our employees but agree that we are not perfect and would welcome any direct one to one feedback you would be able to share. Please do contact any of the senior HR team and the feedback will be treated in confidence – we would really like to get to the bottom of your concerns.

Pros

Flexible working SOME very good & supportive managers Good staff discount A lot to learn and experience Impressive offices

Cons

Senior management team often at logger heads over roles and responsibilities that unfortunately puts pressure on those lower down the hierarchy and encourages negativity amongst departments. Competitiveness amongst internal departments is sadly encouraged with very poor cross department ways of working . Habit of “restructuring” which lands you with more responsibility and a more senior role but not the salary and /or job title to go alongside this , essentially you’re getting an unpaid & unrecognised promotion. Whilst several changes in any fast growing organisation are expected, the number of changes in the digital area of the business at Mayborn make you question if the people at the top really know what they are doing. I had 3 different roles and 3 different managers during a 2.5 year period. To echo what others have said, there’s definitely a “clique”mentality . If your face fits and you make friends with the right people you’ll go far.

Hello and thank you for your detailed feedback. External volatility, changing consumer behaviours and our own digital knowledge and learning have led us to continually evolve and mature our digital strategy. Change can be daunting for some and for others it is exciting and dynamic but embracing change is a critical part of success for most organisations, if they are to remain competitive. We do recognise through our employee engagement surveys that we need to adopt a more structured approach to implementing change across departments to ensure that ways of working and accountabilities are clear and we have, as a result, invested in a dedicated HR role in order to better support and manage the impact of change from a people perspective. You have mentioned pay and we are currently undertaking a project on reward which will evolve our global reward principles and it includes a benchmarking exercise to assess our reward against the market to ensure we remain highly competitive. We continue to listen to employee feedback and our engagement scores have increased over the last year. In terms of your comments about cross departmental working we don’t agree that departments are encouraged to ‘compete’ with each other. At Mayborn we are one global family and we work to a common set of goals and values together. We are, as many reviews have highlighted, fast-paced and dynamic and we do set high expectations. As a fast-growing global business we are by no means perfect, but at our hearts we are here to do the best we can for our consumers and our people and we continue to strive towards our vision of being the world’s most loved baby company.

Pros

The bold vision set by the private equity company & executed by the CEO and his "yes men" was fabulous. The brand Tommee Tippee also had great potential. There were many good people around but they were often too afraid to fully leverage their skills.

Cons

Shortsighted management team. Profit was the only objective. When warned about potential dangerous product flaws we were asked to continue the launch. People are overworked and scared to silence. Fresh blood joining and trying to drive positive changed are quickly exited.
