I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for. There are many opportunities for growth. They value their employees. It is a fast paced environment, so there is never a dull moment.

    Cons

Being in Department Management at Nordstrom comes with a lot of stress. There is reporting for every metric and managers are responsible for making their numbers. It is especially tough to make sales figures in a brick-and-mortar store when there is so much online competition.

    Advice to Management

I felt like Management was always trying to cut costs. They would constantly restructure or consolidate positions. Those who still had their position ended up having much more on there plate without much of a pay increase.

    I worked at Nordstrom full-time

    Pros

Great company to work for! Wonderful managers who were understanding and flexible. It felt like working with family at our store.

    Cons

Being on commission is absolutely awful. Having a set hourly is the only way to go. A couple people who have been there forever ( or are really pushy) make all of the money in each department and everyone else makes minimum wage. Hours are not always set, if you are closing then you cannot leave until the last customer has left the store (which was an hour or two after my shift a couple times).
