I have been working at QIAGEN full-time for less than a year

    Pros

QIAGEN is culturally diverse, highly dynamic and provides great benefits (i.e. Private Dental, Healthcare, Fitness contributions etc..). Besides, it provides excellent flexibility for their employees to work from home, which significantly reduces any type of additional stress. Being part of QIAGEN is similar to being part of a big family, thus, to succeed here you must be willing to be a team player. Furthermore,... QIAGEN is a highly meritocratic company, with a leadership management structure which promotes free-thinking across all corporate level. Don't be afraid to be creative!

I've been with the company for only 6 months now. None to report at the present time.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps, review the real meaning behind what a "Specialist" role title really represents...

I have been working at QIAGEN full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friendly colleagues, good place to learn but it comes at its own cost since they push you into the deep end from the beginning, good pension

    Cons

No work life balance specially for function leads within project teams and project managers, high level of stress and workload, below average salary, basically you do a £65k job for £40k for example, I personally feel like I’m just another headcount to the senior management, no reward for when you’ve achieved far more than expected.

    Advice to Management

Value the people who work for you and this includes financial compensation, treat them with respect, if you think the business is not profitable enough close it but don’t make people to do more and more work for you for the same money year after year, don’t lead them on and make them feel a pay rise is around the corner and then they try harder and harder to achieve it only to realise it was a false promise, this... business specially the Manchester site is not sustainable, you will realise this the hard way of you don’t take some drastic actions soon enough.

I worked at QIAGEN full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - The people are amazing, really helpful, hardworking and friendly - The type of work carried out is rewarding - Good training opportunities - Good company benefits - Lots of charity events - Flexible working

    Cons

    - Work is really up and down, either really busy or have long quiet periods, if not re-resourced. - Flexible working can mean having to wait for colleagues to start work.

    Advice to Management

Utilise people when they are free and offer their services.

I have been working at QIAGEN full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Dynamic, varied work, exposure to clients, PMA submissions, good team spirit

    Cons

Too busy, inefficiency, business driven by R&D (product development) rather than clinical/ medical/ regulatory requirements

    Advice to Management

Look at the rest of the market; update standard project phases to match regulatory clinical requirements ie address medical and clinical affairs in priority to product development. PD leadership at the start of a project must be balanced by other core team members throughout.

I have been working at QIAGEN full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people who work at Qiagen are what make it a great place to work rather than the job itself. The benefits are good but Qiagen is not the only company to offer these and the same can be said for flexible working hours. Work life balance is ok but the onus is on the individual employee to enforce this rather than the company as a whole.

    Cons

Stress levels can be high depending on which project you are allocated to and who the managers are. Some Projects are given all the resource and everyone else is expected to cope There is a high turn over of staff at all levels of the company The pay is low for the industry and location yet they want highly motivated employees. (Even after the ~4years I have been here my pay is less than my previous... job) New hire staff without experience can earn the same as those that have been in the role for a long period of time and have more experience which seems unfair. Wage rises in April generally track inflation so it is not actually a wage rise. Pay scales are benchmarked but employees aren’t allowed to know what the range for the role actually is.

    Advice to Management

You have said you want to decrease staff turn over but you seem unwilling to listen to the advice from your staff that pay is the biggest issue for people leaving.

    Pros

Everyone in the team started out as a scientist and overall show a good understanding of the clients needs.

    Cons

As QIAGEN is a global organisation it can sometimes be difficult to reach out to people in different time zones.
