Pros

Talented colleagues Flexible working (up to a point)

Cons

Workload up, staff numbers down --> overworked colleagues without replacements. Staff being taken for granted. Expectation of working long hours without reward Poor resourcing model, not using the right people in the right places Lack of training & development opportunities, with the attitude of not wanting to develop staff because they will become marketable for competitors and then leave Expecting the best talent, but paying what they can get away with. Micromanagement from the top & a lack of trust

Director of HR & Learning and Development Thank you for your review of your time spent at Quanticate, we appreciate your thoughts. It is always difficult when a number of senior people leave a company, but for Quanticate this has been quite cyclical in its timing. We never want to lose employees, though we have to acknowledge that sometimes individuals want to move onto something new. We have made a number of senior hires this year both in the UK and in India, with more individuals joining us shortly. In terms of your other comments, we are continually working hard to develop our training and development options and a new programming training programme is in development as I write. We are also continuing to focus on our salaries to ensure that we remain where we need to be within a highly competitive market. In relation to your comments regarding working hours, resourcing, and micro management, I will feed these back to the senior management team for further investigation. Thank you once again for your review and best wishes to you for the future.

Time Sheet Crazy

Pros

+ Diverse range of projects. + Cooperative work environment with encouragement to acknowledge the efforts of others. + Fantastic office location in Edinburgh. + Regular internal knowledge share sessions. + Flexible working (home based, part-time etc are options).

Cons

- We have lost lots of great staff. - Management focused on budgets and time sheeting every detail. - Promotions can take a long time - there are great people who have 5-10 years experience and still not at "Senior" level and 20+ years experience and still not at "Principal" level. - The emphasis in "Leading" projects has shifted to checking staff have completed the 2 parallel time sheet systems properly - instead of effectively collaborating with the client, to understand the project and make sure a quality delivery is made. - Computer systems a bit dated - takes 15 minutes to log on. - No annual pay increases to keep up with inflation. - Insufficient improvement of processes and proactive involvement by QA. - Upper management give the impression that they don't trust their staff (even heads of function). - If weekend working is required you won't get paid for the first 5 hours work. - Issues with generic templates in Word and power point making some work frustrating.

A mixed picture

Pros

A lot of very talented people are employed who are very easy to work with. Some interesting and challenging work is available. Pleasant work environment.

Cons

There is an obsession with time booking and chargeability. While these things do obviously matter, the rather petty and small-minded way this is pursued alienates people. A lot of time is taken up independently filling in two redundant systems which are then expected to agree exactly. Although there is a lot of emphasis on training, this is often poorly constructed and indiscriminately applied. There is a tick-the-box, one-size-fits-all mentality at work here, which often does very little to train or motivate. Less training and more education would be good. HR processes are bureaucratic and impenetrable. I still don't really understand the annual review cycle, which doesn't make it easy to say what your "objectives" for the year are. Resourcing is rather chaotic, with a lot of wasted resources (or fed-up people as they are also known). There is a lack of willingness to actually talk to the people involved.
