Pros

Free Scoot rides in SF

Cons

Where do I begin... The CEO (Michael Keating) and CTO (Kunal Bhasin) are two of the most incompetent and unprofessional people I have ever met. From a pure business standpoint, the company is a mess. There is no long term product roadmap, the CEO doesn't tell the rest of the company when he wants to launch products, they don't staff projects appropriately or have realistic schedules. They waste money like crazy because no one plans ahead. Furthermore, the Scoot leadership is incredibly arrogant, and they don't listen to people who have years of experience in the fields they are trying to work in. And they cut corners even when safety is concerned - I kept bringing up regulatory testing as a major concern but it didn't fit into their launch schedule so it was ignored. From a management standpoint, Michael and Kunal were a nightmare to deal with. Michael is a terrible communicator, and Kunal is full of hot air. He loves to hear himself talk but doesn't say anything useful. Everyone on the engineering team ignores Kunal, unless you're one of the unlucky people that he micromanages and then he schedules multiple 1:1 meetings with you in the same day just to waste your time. It should have been a red flag when I saw I was the only woman on the engineering team, and I soon found out why. Kunal liked to regularly ask my direct report about my project right in front of me, and made sexist comments to my face. When I reported this and other unacceptable behaviors to the CEO and asked to switch managers, he told me it would set a bad precedent for me to switch managers and blamed me for not telling him sooner (it had been 3 months). When I made an HR complaint, they kicked me out of the office. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly by a company, but it was the perfect example of how Scoot operates: no forethought or strategy, just a completely emotional reaction from Michael.

Pros

Electric scooters are fun! Some great people.

Cons

Few decent middle managers, not much follow up, abrupt uninformed decisions. Low energy, low commitment culture. Projects drift to a stop or drag on without clear goals. Can't figure out product/market fit, and scaling in spite of that. This leads to conflicting "scale quickly but not too much!" orders. Lots of turnover, many people seems to leave in 3-9 months, they disappear suddenly and then are talked down by senior management. Even longer tenured people abruptly get fired/fed up and are gone in the space of a couple days. I wish this was because of poor performance, if anything it tends to be good people that go. Have to remember what we aren't being straightforward about now.

Pros

- Driven, empathetic, and amazing colleagues (by far my favorite perk) - Great new office space - Unlimited access to motor scooters, electric bikes, and kick scooters - Fun weekly happy hour - Great culture and company values that retains and attracts great people. Our core values: transparency, safety, and being thoughtful and genuine (aka "Be seen, be safe, be nice")

Cons

- Typical growing pains for a startup turning into an authority in the space - Process only comes to teams with experienced and disciplined leaders. Some teams have it, others don't. - Although we've improved in the last year, high-level strategy can still be lacking at times
