Threw me into middle management with no training, then fired me after one month
Pros
If you're just looking for a college internship and not something long term, this is a good place for you as it teaches you what red flags to look out for in the working world, what qualities you don't want in a boss/upper management, etc.
Cons
-First and foremost - I was given no training yet fired after 7.5 weeks "for not moving fast enough and making too many errors". I had no indication that this was coming. I was on a travel schedule for the following week, I had gotten an invite to a company party, etc. I even (unknowingly) set up my own termination meeting as I had scheduled a sit down with my boss to try and figure out how to better communicate with the owner. Before I could talk I was fired, and after she was done with her spiel this woman had the nerve to look me in the eye and say "I'm guessing this makes what you had to say moot". -Founder/Owner has pushed staff to make public, political statements without considering that those staff members might have differing views -No training on actual job duties -Higher management (VPs) can be/were insulting on a personal level -Nobody is on the same page / everyone seems disorganized -Meetings get tense - i.e. the higher-ups start arguing with each other in front of everyone -From what I understand it's fairly common for this place to have a revolving door for their middle management positions. -The younger, fresh-out-of-college staff genuinely believe that this place is great and seem to think that the disorganization, arguments in meetings, etc. is just how the working world operates. It's kind of sad -My direct boss had a personality that's naturally condescending. Seems like something you should try to work on as a VP in charge of multiple people. -Direct boss also took forever to explain things to you and would go off in five different directions in the middle of it to try to cover as many topics as possible which makes it very easy to get lost. i.e., if she was explaining the function of a stoplight to you, she would take three minutes and at the end of it you'd be confused as to what the different colors mean -You have to BUY YOUR OWN OFFICE SUPPLIES if what you want/need isn't already in the mail room. Every company I've worked at, large or small, has had an office supply account with Office Max, Staples, etc. that I could order from. But if you want pens that aren't half-empty, or a specific desk organizer, and it's not in the mail room, you have to buy it out of your own pocket and you DO NOT get reimbursed. I have never heard of a company having this policy. I managed to find an old coffee mug to use as a pen holder
